About the Competition
Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Law is elated to organize the Lincoln-Douglas debate. Through the means of this competition, the focus will be on the conflicting values of social and philosophical issues, for example, by examining questions of morality, justice, democracy, etc.
Two debaters arguing for and against a resolution will be evaluated by the coaches whether or not certain actions, or states of affairs, are good or bad, right or wrong, moral or immoral.
There will fixtures will be decided randomly between two participants.
The format of this debate would be 1v1 i.e both the participants will be expected to make arguments in favor and against the topic with the option of cross- examination and rebuttal their opponent once.
No use of unparliamentary language would be accepted, the participants are expected to treat each other and the judges with the utmost respect.

Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce is back with its annual fest TROIKA.
Often regarded as one of the most efficiently managed events in the city. Troika, is BMCC’s annual inter-college fest. It is one of the largest fests of its kind around the Pune region with 20+ events which is going to have it’s 12th Edition in April 2022.

Debate Rules and Format
There will be two phases of debate per round between the two participants.
In the first phase, Person A will make arguments in favor of the topic and Person B would make arguments against the topic.
In the second phase, Person b will make arguments in favor of the topic, and Person A would make arguments against the topic.
In each round, there will be four different parts.
Part 1 would be wherein the respective participant would make an affirmative case or arguments in favor for a total of 2 mins.
In Part 2, the person who is supposed to make arguments against the topic would cross-examine in form of questions for a total of 1 min.
Part 3 would consist of the statement given by the person against the topic for 2 mins.
And finally, Part 4 would be the closing statements made by the person in favor of the topic for 2 mins.

Rules and Regulations for Debate
A team shall consist of 2 members.
Any number of teams can participate from a single department/ Institute.
The medium of debate shall be either completely English or completely Hindi only.
The participants should carry their University identity cards for the event.
Each team shall be allotted a number which shall be intimated to them just before the competition.
Participants are required to prepare their arguments for both (For and Against) the topic.
It will be decided by draw of lots that which team will speak in favour or against the theme.
The order of speaking and the opponents shall be also be decided by draw of lots which will be done just before the competition.
Time limit is allotted in the following manner:

INTERJECTIONS/ARGUMENTS 2 MINS
The first bell for both the teams will ring after the completion of 3 minutes, the next bell will ring after the completion of 5th minute and the final bell will ring after the completion of 2 minutes reserved for interjections/ arguments.
Time of 5 minutes shall be availed equally by both the members of the teams speaking for/ against the motion.
After the speeches of both the teams, the speakers shall be open to answer the questions raised by the judges as well as their opponent. A maximum of 3 questions is allowed from the opponent team. Cross-questioning is not allowed.
The participants will be graded on the following parameters:

About the Law Fest
Indore Institute of Law with full pride and head held high, organized India’s 1st National Law Fest Lex Bonanza back in the year 2012 and earned great laurels among the academicians, students, and philanthropists. It provided a platform for students to showcase their legal skills and to develop their personalities. This Law Fest helped the Indore Institute of Law to occupy the position of prominence in the globalized world.
This Law Fest has now become a legacy since the year 2012. The VI edition of Law fest in 2017 added another feather to the cap as it went International.
