Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur is organising the National Rounds of The Louis M. Brown and Forrest S. Mosten International Client Consultation Competition, in association with the Forum of South Asian Clinical Law Teachers.
This year, it will be held physically from 9th to 11th December 2022 at DNLU, Jabalpur.
The Winning team at the national rounds would represent India in the international rounds of the competition to be hosted by the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands, between 11-15th April 2023.
ELIGIBILITY
Only Law Colleges/Universities recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate.
Only bona fide students pursuing LL.B. Three-Year/Five-Year Degree programs in aforementioned institutions, during the current academic year are eligible to participate.

ABOUT
Samyat means to meet together; encounter; agreement; a means of joining or uniting. Samyat 2022 being a pioneer in this format of competition also signifies continuity. Its uniqueness lies in the progression from interviewing a client, to negotiating on their behalf, all in one round.
The idea is to enable participants to comprehensively showcase their prowess in dispute resolution. The format offers a unique approach to various ADR mechanisms, giving teams an opportunity to showcase their talents in both, the client counselling and negotiation aspect of the competition.
THEME
The theme of the competition is commercial law as consulting lawyers and negotiating form a quintessential part of corporate transactions.
TEAM COMPOSITION
Each team shall consist of two bona fide students enrolled in 3/5 year undergraduate law programme in a law college/university recognised by the Bar Council of India.
The registration will be on a first-come-first-serve basis, up to a maximum of 24 teams. Every institution may register a maximum of two teams.
Team members must be of the same institute; cross-teams are NOT allowed.
FORMAT OF THE COMPETITION
Each round consists of two stages:
Stage 1: Client counselling
Stage 2: Negotiation
Stage 1
Each team consisting of two members shall assume the role of advocates/legal counsels and interview the client, who shall be provided by the host college
Client counselling and negotiation are part of the same round, the substance of the problem will remain the same.
At the end of Stage 1, Confidential Information (“CI”) pertaining to the problem will be released. The CI shall be specific to each team, depending on whether their client from Stage 1 was the Requesting or the Responding Party
A duration of 15 minutes will be given to the teams to peruse the CI before the commencement of Stage 2. Teams are to negotiate based on the information/objectives provided to them in the CI, and make strategic use of the same
Stage 2
Two teams square off against one another in Stage 2, i.e., negotiation, wherein the members of the team assume the roles of client and counsel
The teams will then be marked cumulatively for their performance in both stages, and shall be ranked accordingly

3rd Nithin Patil Memorial Mono Advocacy Competition, 2022 – Extempore
The competition is open for students who are currently pursuing LLB via a three year / five-year course.
Each participant has to contest individually.
All the participating institutions/individuals have to provisionally register by filling the Registration Formon or before March 25, 2022.
Subsequently, the participants will receive an email, signifying the status of their provisional registration for participation. The participants will be required to make the payment within 3 days of the receipt of the email of acceptance of provisional registration.
There will be a maximum cap of 24 participants. The registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis and any change in the registration must be informed to the organizers at the earliest.
The participants will be required to pay ₹ 1600 as registration fees once their provisional registration is confirmed by the organizers.
The propositions for the first two rounds will be released 24 hours prior to the commencement of the competition (i.e. on April 7, 2022) which will revolve around Competition Law, Intellectual Property Law, Constitutional Law and Criminal Law.
Client Counselling Competition, 2022
The participants shall be from any of the 3 Year LLB or 5 Year Integrated LLB Course.
Each team will consist of two participants and they shall be from the same institution.
Team(s) may not be altered after registration.
Registration fees for Client Counselling event is Rs.2500/-.
All the participating institutions/teams have to provisionally register by filling the Registration Form on or before March 25, 2022.

The team composition may not be altered after registration.
The last date of Provisional Registration shall be March 25, 2022 must be done on this Registration Link.
The Registration fee for the competition is Rs. 500/-, for which the payments details share be shared with the provisionally registered participants on their Email IDs.
The Final Registration shall be confirmed via mail only after receipt of the payment, which has to be completed within 3 days after the confirmation of provisional registration.
The judgement is to be submitted via the google form both docx and pdflatest by 11:59pm IST, April 05, 2022, on the Submission Link. In case of multiple submissions, the last submission by the participant before the deadline will be considered for evaluation and any submission received after the deadline shall not be considered for evaluation, and the team shall be disqualified.

The Louis M. Brown and Forrest S. Mosten International Client Consultation Competition is an annual competition for the winners of national rounds of the competitions across the world. The 2022 International competition will be held in Online Mode between 19th-24th April 2022 and hosted by the Hillary Clinton School of Law at Swansea University, Wales.
This competition provides an exciting opportunity for law students to learn and practice interviewing and counselling skills as well as to meet participants from an amazing range of nations and cultures.
A Client Counselling Competition for law students was first established in 1969 by Louis M Brown. It was adopted by the American Bar Association in 1972 and the International Competition was inaugurated in 1985. The International Competition was named after Louis M Brown in 1993 and In May 2010, the competition’s name was subtly changed from “client counseling” to “client consultation”.
The Competition is affiliated with the International Bar Association and collaborates closely with law societies and bar associations throughout the world.

Hidayatullah National Law University was established under the Hidayatullah National University of Law, Chhattisgarh, Act, (No. 10 of 2003). It is recognized by the University Grants Commission u/s 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 and also by the Bar Council of India u/s 7 (1) of the Advocates Act, 1961.

About the Law Fest
Indore Institute of Law with full pride and head held high, organized India’s 1st National Law Fest Lex Bonanza back in the year 2012 and earned great laurels among the academicians, students, and philanthropists. PREREQUISITE FOR STAGES
The Competition follows, Point Qualification Format in which teams accumulating the highest number of points in the preliminary rounds will qualify for the Quarter Finals followed by the Semi-Final Rounds and thereon for the Final Rounds.

Each Counselling Session is divided into three parts: Consultation, PostConsultation and Critique.

RULES FOR THE COMPETITION
The school of Law, Sathyabama institute of science And Technology is conducting 1st Virtual National Client Counselling Competition,2021. The Competition shall be conducted on 3rd & 4th December 2021. The rules for the competition are given below:
The Organizers shall not be responsible for any loss due to slow or non-functional Internet Connection during the Competition. We request all the participants to arrange a sound Internet Connection.
The decision of the Judges shall be final regarding the outcome of the Rounds.
No additional documentation or screen sharing will be allowed.
The Organizers reserve the right to take disqualify the participants if indulged unethical, wrongful or unprofessional conduct.
Scouting is not allowed under any circumstances and may lead to disqualification. You are requested to exit the room after your session is over.
If there is any situation, not covered by the Rules, the decision of the Organizers shall be final and binding.
The participants are always required to comply with the rules formulated by the Organizing Committee during the competition. In case of any non-compliance with the rules of the competition, penalty may be imposed by deduction of marks and the teams may also be disqualified after they have been warned once.
All the participates will receive their E-Certificates.
Participants are advised to check their mailboxes regularly for updates.
In the case of a tie, the higher rank would be determined on the basis of least time taken by the participants.

The Marking scheme shall comprise of 50 marks per participant, which shall be distributed as follows:
Presence of mind = 10 marks
Ability to provide legal solution = 10 marks
Tactfully handling the client = 10 marks
Extracting relevant information from client = 10 marks
Audible summarizing & team work (Post Consultation) = 10 mark

REGISTRATION DETAILS
Teams can register by filling up the google form, which is given below. First 30 registered teams only can participate. https://forms.gle/ReNUR2nQ3Fm2qPiW9
The registration fee shall be Rs.1000 /- for each team. The registration fee shall be non-refundable and non-transferable.
The last date for registration is 1st December 2021.
Once a team registers by completing the formalities given, a Code (hereinafter “Team Code”) shall be assigned to the team by the Organizing Committee.
The link/Rooms for all the sessions will be conveyed to the participants prior to the event.
The organizing committee has the exclusive right to decide in case of any dispute related to the competition. The decision of the organizing committee in such a case shall be final.

First Prize: Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs.5000
Second Prize: Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs.2500
Best Student Council: Certificate of Merit + Cash Prize of Rs.1500
E-Certificate will be provided to active participants.
