About the Opportunity

The DPIIT-IPR Chair at Osmania University, is organizing  Āviṣkār –National Level IP Essay Writing Competition on the theme “Role of Youth in Innovating for Better Future through IP” with the primary objective of creating awareness and promoting discourse on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs).

The Essay Competition is one of the events being organized by the IPR-Chair to celebrate the World IP Day 2022 (April 26).

Eligibility

Students pursuing UG/PG/Diploma Course in any discipline, from any University or its affiliated College recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) are eligible to participate in the Competition. [Age Limit: up to 25 years]

Guidelines for the Essay Competition

  • Word limit for the Essay is 2000 words, exclusive of the footnotes.
  • Co-Authorship is NOT permitted.
  • Text must be in Times New Roman font; Size 12; Justified; 1.5 spacing – Footnotes must be in Times New Roman font; Size 10; Justified; 1 spacing. Any uniform method of citation may be followed.
  • Essay manuscript must be an original and unpublished work of the Author.
  • All essays would be checked for similarity and those with similarity index more than 10% would be liable for rejection.
  • Author shall not disclose any information regarding the identity, including, but not limited to name, institutional assistance, professional details, etc., within the body of the manuscript.
  • The manuscript submitted in the Essay Competition shall be original work of the author and the same shall not be published or submitted for publication elsewhere, and not infringe any other copyright.
  • The DPIIT IPR-Chair Osmania University retains absolute discretion in marking the manuscripts submitted in the Essay Competition and selecting the Winners.
  • The ownership over the copyright of the essay submitted for the Competition and selected for the Publication in the OU IPR Forum Blog shall be transferred to DPIIT IPR-Chair, Osmania University and the author shall only retain the moral rights over their work.
  • The registered candidates would be provided link for submission of the Manuscript of the Essay.

Technolawgy Society, under the aegis of Vidhiutsav organized by the School of Law, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, is organizing 2nd Edition of National Patent Drafting Competition which will be held on April 21 & 22, 2022, in virtual mode.

In order to enhance the learning curve, Technolawgy Society has collaborated with Lawctopus law school as Knowledge partners and Lawctopus as media partners for the event. 

To enlighten the participants with the minutiae of drafting a patent, the Technolawgy society, UPES will be organizing a webinar session with Patent Attorneys who will guide the participants to draft a patent.

There will be two rounds in the competition:

Round 2: Eight (8) shortlisted teams will sit through a quiz, where their knowledge related to patents will be tested.

About the Competition

In this competition, the advocacy skill of participants will be tested. The participants have to give a dissenting opinion on a case law that has been already decided by The Supreme Court of India and convince the audience that what they are saying is right.

Eligibility

Students enrolled in 5 years integrated law program and 3 years law program are eligible to apply for this event.

Rules of the Competition

  1. The students will be given a google form to register. They have to fill up their 3 preferences of any latest and landmark judgment decided by The Supreme Court of India.
  2. One out of the 3 cases will be confirmed for each participant.
  3. Each participant will get 3-5 minutes to speak about their dissenting view on the judgment of that particular case.
  4. The participants will be judged based on legal research, communication skills, and convincing power.

Mode of the Competition

For Non-GIL students, the Competition shall be conducted in HYBRID MODE, and for GIL students, the Competition shall be conducted offline at Geeta Institute of Law.

Aarambh is the Debating Society of the Law college. Students are encouraged to participate in events all over the country, where they get exposure to various formats of debates. The topics and issues chosen for various debates and discussions are selected, keeping in mind, the need of a law student to be in touch with relevant social issues.

About the Event

Debate is a method of formally presenting an argument in a disciplined manner. Logical consistency, factual accuracy and some degree of emotional appeal to the audience are elements in debating, where one side often prevails over the other party by presenting a superior “context” and/or framework of the issue. The outcome of a debate may depend upon consensus or some formal way of reaching a resolution, rather than the objective facts.

The Concurs De Debate is a National Level Conventional Debate organized by Aarambh the Debating Society, to effectively broaden the scope of orating skills among all the participants.

Rules of the Debate 

  1. The topic for the debate is-“THBT student migration is a failure of education system in India. इस सदन का मानना है कि छात्रों का प्रवास भारत की शिक्षा प्रणाली की विफलता है। 
  2. The debate shall be bilingual, either exclusively in English or exclusively in Hindi.
  3. The speakers shall not disclose their identities and shall only represent themselves by the team codes allotted to them.
  4. Each team shall be called by their team code and they are required to leave the podium together after their respective speeches.
  5. The speakers shall come to the podium as a team where one shall speak in the favour of the motion and the other shall speak against the motion.
  6. Each speaker shall be allotted a total time limit of 5 mins i.e (4+1) where the last minute shall be given to conclude the topic.
  7. The completion of the time limit of fourth min shall be indicated as single bell and the final bell to conclude the topic at the last 5th minute shall be indicated as a double bell.
  8. After the speech is made, the particular speaker shall be open to the floor for rebuttal. Only a participant from another team can ask a rebuttal.
  9. The answer to the rebuttal shall not exceed 1 minute.
  10. Only one rebuttal will be permitted per participant.
  11. No speaker shall be allowed to carry any piece of paper or gadget to the podium, a violation of which shall result in disqualification. The decision of the jury shall be final.
  12. Violation of any rule may cause disqualification of the whole team with the discretion of the jury.

Eligibility

  • Participant must be a bona fide student of the concerned university or college and must furnish a communiqué along with a proof of identity issued by the competent authority of the institution.
  • Team :
    • Each College/ University may send maximum two teams comprising of two individual each. Team participation shall mandatorily be in English and Hindi i.e., One team in English and the other in Hindi.
    • However if the College/University is unable to arrange such bilingual teams, then it may send only one team in any one of the languages.

Procedure of Registration

  1. The participants must register through a single registration form.
  2. Registration Fee:
    • A team of two members speaking in Hindi along with a team of two members speaking in English will fill a single form providing details of all the four candidates of the two teams by paying a fee of INR 800 for two teams
    • In case, where only one team is registering from an institution, the form shall be filled by the two candidates of the same team after paying a registration fee of INR 500 for one team.
  3. After paying the registrations fee, the participants are required to upload the screen shot of the payment in the registration form. Upon successful registration, a confirmation E-mail shall be sent to the participants.

  1. The participants shall be provided accommodation within the campus, if it is opted by them. 
    • The female participants shall be accommodated in the Girls Hostel under the supervision of hostel wardens and organizing committee.

About the Asian Parliamentary Competition

The organizing committee Samvaad, a student-governed committee, was established with intrinsic
value of the Ancient Indian Philosophy of Vadashastra- वा देवा देजा यतेतत्वबो ध: meaning “Truth is discovered and assimilated or realized by debates and discussions,” in 2020.

Samvaad aims to facilitate an inclusive and accessible platform for the new generation of aspiring lawyers by encouraging them to think wisely, talk valiantly, and debate logically; with such values and determination, the committee is organizing its First Edition of National Parliamentary Debate-Asian Style.

The debate rounds would be held in four stages two (2) Preliminary rounds, followed by
Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals, and The Grand Finale.

Format of Debate

Each debating match will consist of two teams; one to propose the motion and one to oppose it. The
the team proposing may be known as ‘The Proposition,’ ‘The Affirmative,’ or ‘The Government.’

The team opposing may be known as ‘The Opposition’ or ‘The Negative’. Teams will be designated as the
Proposition or the Opposition for each round of the competition.

About the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution

The Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution is a platform that provides training and recognition to students participating in alternative dispute resolution activities ranging from mediation, arbitration to client counseling. The ADR skills enable participants to resolve the dispute amicably and ‘to be hard on the problem and soft on the people’.

The Virtual Negotiation Competition

The 4th VIPS – Maadhyam National Virtual Negotiation Competition, 2022 (hereinafter referred to as ‘the Competition’), organized by the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR), Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies, VIPS, in collaboration with Maadhyam – International Council for Dispute Resolution (hereinafter referred to as ‘the Organising Committee’).

The Competition will be held from April 28 to May 1, 2022.

Eligibility

Open to all bonafide students pursuing undergraduate degrees (five and three-year law programs) in Law Schools/Colleges/Institutions/Universities recognized by the Bar Council of India. 

Each Participating Institution is permitted to send a maximum number of 2 teams to the Competition. If at all more teams are registered, that would be subject to only two teams being selected on the First Come, First Serve basis.

All participants must be registered with their respective institutions as full-time or part-time students for 2021-2022.

About the Organizers

The Society for International Trade and Competition Law (‘SITC’) is an academic society of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (‘WBNUJS’), Kolkata. Its aim is to increase awareness with respect to the two legal fields of competition and international trade law among law students and the public at large.

About the Blog Writing Competition

The blog teams of the NUJS Society for International Trade and Competition Law (SITC) and NUJS Intellectual Property and Technology Laws Society (IPTLS) are collaborating to organize a blog writing competition ‘CONFLUX’ wherein entries can be sent on the topic – ‘Intersection of IP and Competition Laws‘. 

Winning 5 entries will be published on both the IPTLS and SITC blogs. 

Concept Note

The two regimes of Competition and IP together work in a balance to safeguard market interests as well as promote innovation and thus through this collaboration both societies aim to promote discourse in this area.

SCLHR is a forum dedicated to promoting research, increasing students’ ability to interpret the law to the changing situations, and spreading awareness of issues dealing with Comparative Constitutional Law & Human Rights. About the Quiz Competition

In this furtherance, we are pleased to announce the ‘4thNational UPES– School of Law Constitutional Law Quiz Competition’, to be organized on April  9th – 10th, 2022. The competition is divided into three rounds which will be held through offline mode. 

The objective of this event is to provide an opportunity for the students to apply their Constitutional and Human Rights knowledge at the speed of thought.

Eligibility

Students pursuing graduate or postgraduate degree in any field of study can participate in the
competition from any recognized College or University.

General Guidelines

  • There will be a capping of 150 participants. Registration will be based on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • In case of any misconduct, the discretion of the organizing committee shall prevail.
  • Any participant found using any unfair means will be disqualified.
  • In case of any ambiguity in guidelines/conflict on any matter arising in between the competition, the organizing committee shall have the discretion.

Awards

  • 1st Prize: 7,000 + Trophy + Certificate of merit
  • 2nd Prize: 5,000 + Trophy + Certificate of merit
  • 3rd Prize: 3,000 + Trophy + Certificate of merit

Note: Certificate of merit will be provided to all finalists and a Certificate of participation to all the participants.

  • Rs. 150/- (For individual participation)
  • Rs. 250/- (For team participation)

About the Organizer

NMIMS started operations at Bengaluru (Koramangala) in 2008. Now it has a full-fledged main campus located on Bannerghatta Road.

About the Legal Opinion Drafting Competition 2022

NMIMS Bangalore’s School of Law is inviting students to participate in its 1st National Opinion Drafting Competition, which will be conducted online.

Eligibility

All students enrolled bona fide in an undergraduate i.e., 3 years/5 years or postgraduate law program conducted by any college or university shall be eligible for participation in the competition.

In this competition, cross-institutional teams are allowed to participate.

Team Composition

Each participating team shall comprise of a minimum of one (1) member and a maximum of two (2) members.

General Instructions

  • Date: The date of the Memorial Submission will be April 10, 2022, 11:59 PM.
  • Venue: The Memorial Submission will take place via Google form provided by the organizing committee.
  • Language: The language of the competition will be ENGLISH only.

Submission Guidelines

  • Team Code to be indicated at the bottom right corner in bold. (For example – NVMC 01) which shall be intimated to the respective teams.
  • The structure of the legal opinion is on the discretion of the participants. The legal opinion should not exceed the word limit of 10,000. Exceeding the word limit, the candidate will lose 10 marks.
  • The Legal opinion shall be typed on A4 size page in Font type: Times New Roman; Font size: 12, 1.5-line spacing, 1-inch margin on each side.
  • All the pages of the submission should have page numbers at the bottom.
  • 20th Blue Book edition for footnotes shall be followed.
  • Only soft copies of Legal Opinion shall be submitted in both .pdf and .docx format latest by 11.59 pm on 10th April 2022.
  • Participants will be provided with a link of google forms for the submission of Legal Opinion. The name of the file must be “Legal Opinion – (Team Code) – 2022” and the format of the file must be .docx and pdf. In case the name of the file is not as prescribed, the submission will not be accepted, and the organizing committee will not be responsible for the delay of such submissions. The identification mark of any type is strictly prohibited. Breach of this rule shall lead to penalty or disqualification.
