The NITI Aayog Internship

NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India), Government of India had initiated an Internship Scheme in 2015. This Scheme seeks to engage students pursuing UG/Graduate/PG Degrees or Research Scholars enrolled in recognized universities/Institutions within India or abroad.

The Internship Scheme

The interns shall be given exposure to various Verticals/Divisions/Units within NITI Aayog and would be expected to supplement the process of analysis within NITI Aayog through empirical collection and collation of in-house and other information.

The online application link will be open from 1st to 10th of every month.

Please Note: The applications open now for the internship starting from the month of September.

Duration of Internship

At least 6 (Six) weeks but not exceeding 6 (Six) months.

Interns not completing the requisite period will not be issued any certificate.

Eligibility

Bonafide students of any recognized University/ Institution within India or abroad, fulfilling the following conditions are eligible to apply for the internship:

  • UG students, having completed/appeared in the term-end exams of second year/4th semester of the bachelor degree course and secured not less than 85% or equivalent marks in 12th class.
  • Graduate students having completed/ appeared in the term-end exams of first-year/2nd semester of their post-graduate program or persuing research/Ph.D. and secured not less than 70% or equivalent marks in Graduation.
  • The students who have appeared in the final exam or just completed Graduation/PG and waiting for admission for higher studies may also be considered for internship provided that they have secured 70% or more cumulative marks in all the years/semesters of their graduation/ post-graduation till the date of application.
  • The period between the month of declaration of result of the final exam and the desired month of the internship should not exceed 6 (Six) months e.g. if the result is declared in the month of June then he/she can apply for the internship beginning till the month of December.

How to Apply?

  • The interested applicants may apply online only on the website of NITI Aayog by the 10th of Aug
  • The application can only be made six months in advance but not later than 2 months before the month in which the internship is desired.
  • Applicants must also clearly indicate the area of interest.
  • Please Note: A candidate can apply for an internship only once during a financial year.
  • The selected applicant has to produce original mark sheets and NOC from the college/institution at the time of joining, failing which his/her candidature shall be canceled. (Format given in Annexure ‘C’ of the official notification).

Responsibilities:

  • Performs on-going maintenance/refresh of existing customer data
  • Performs on-going set up and maintenance of settlement instructions in a variety of internal applications;
  • Interacts daily with global operation teams to ensure timely update of all settlement instructions
  • Actively monitors settlement rates to ensure instructions are being updated correctly
  • Liaises with other operations teams globally to ensure settlement instruction (SSI) is correctly and timely added to accounts , where possible, in response prior to trading or confirmation activity
  • Directly sources settlement instruction from Clients in response to reference data refresh requirements, trade exception processing, cancel and correct data, requests received via the in house workflow tool.

  • Process improvement: Identify opportunities to improve processes, stay aware of and share best practices, develop playbooks, training and improve efficiency across the legal team.

Stay aware of legal operations industry trends and advise on needed upgrades and improvements to business processes and tools.

  • Legal entity compliance. Oversee and manage corporate filings related to Priceline companies; manage know your customer requests for information from across the business. 
  • Litigation Support: Oversee and manage cost effective litigation support and e-discovery processes and policies.
  • Group-wide partnership: Facilitate communications and deliverables between Priceline’s Legal Team and our parent company and sibling brands to help ensure deliverables, obligations and strategic goals are met.

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; J.D. a plus
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a legal assistant or operations manager, or comparable legal administration and/or management
  • Demonstrated experience of streamlining legal processes and administering contract and legal matter management systems
  • Ability to read, understand and draft contractual terms using a standard playbook; experience in redlining and negotiating agreements and legal invoices

Background on the Team

Institutional Securities Documentation (ISD) is a global team based in several locations (including New York, London, Hong Kong, and Tokyo).  AEDG stands for Asia Equity Documentation Group, which is part of ISD and is comprised of a group of negotiators with legal backgrounds (i.e. practicing lawyers in HK/UK/NY; and/or as holders of law degrees/master’s in law).  We support the equity businesses of Morgan Stanley Hong Kong office and handle documentation for prime brokerage and listed derivatives, over-the-counter on equity swaps/options (vanilla and exotic) on global equity underlying (with a particular focus on the Asia markets such as China QFII/ Stock Connect and India ODI), stock-lending, listed derivatives, warrants issuance, China cash trading, regulatory remediation and subsets of documentation relating to our coverage areas.

Primary Responsibilities

This role is in Mumbai and requires working with the Asia Equity Documentation Group based in Hong Kong. The role will require a fast-learning, dynamic, pro-active, and self-motivated person to assist the team in its day-to-day activities. 

The current opening is for a professional within the Asia Pacific team, based in Mumbai, with responsibility for documentation aspects of OTC derivative transactions, prime brokerage, and stock-lending transactions in the Asia ex-Japan region.

Job Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate and execute (including amendments to) master derivatives agreements, including but not limited to ISDA, VM CSA, IM CSA, equity swaps /options and prime brokerage related documentation.
  • Review and analyze constitutional documents of the client, to establish their capacity and authority capabilities for entering derivative transactions with Morgan Stanley.
  • Review and analyze capacity and authority legal opinion from external counsel and highlight issues to Risk and Legal for approvals where applicable.
  • Work closely with MS internal stakeholders, to obtain approvals on deviated terms identified in negotiable agreements, with clear implication on deviated terms to enable internal stakeholders to make informed decisions.
  • Handle business unit’s queries on the terms of documentation ISD handles.
  • Participate in globally or locally led projects related to documentation requirements.
  • Undertake tasks directly related to the coordination and lifecycle management of the clients’ agreements and act as the primary point of contact for the clients for all tasks originating from the Asia Pacific region.
  • Responsible for administering and facilitating the agreement execution process; maintain and update clients’ contract database/systems; attend to day-to-day coordination among internal procurement and legal teams with respect to such contracts; and perform due diligence to ensure contract terms and conditions as well as information of the parties is reflected in the client’s contract database/systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Law graduate with relevant 1-5 years of experience in financing/derivatives is preferred.  Legal qualification is advantageous.
  • In-house documentation negotiation experience or paralegal experience in corporate law firm is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Prepared to speak to clients (internal and external) at all times.
  • Proficiency in English is a must.  Good team player.
  • Solid quantitative skills and strong interest in business, economics, and law.

Roles and Responsibilities

● Advising on good governance practices and compliance of Corporate Governance norms as prescribed under various laws

● Handles the promotion, formation, and incorporation of companies and matters related therewith

● Responsible for filing, registering any document including forms, returns, and applications by and on behalf of the company as an authorized representative

● Coordinate the board/general meetings and follow-up actions thereof

● Education: CS (Law graduate – preferred)

● Company Secretary with minimum 2+ years of experience.

The candidate should have some experience working as a banking or securities lawyer at an established law firm or at financial services or fin-tech companies.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  •  Draft, review, negotiate and advise internal stakeholders and negotiate with external counterparts on a variety of commercial agreements, including third party agreements, operations agreements, services agreements, partnerships, and marketing agreements
  •  Develop and implement processes for efficient and streamlined operations surrounding contract negotiation and processes
  •  Develop and maintain precedent agreements, contract management systems, and other databases
  •  Identify and advise on legal risks in connection with the development of new products
  •  Liaise with specialist external counsel in relation to original new products, expansion into new market verticals and areas relating to compliance, privacy, or security
  •  Resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries
  •  Drive and support all ongoing HR compliance review processes, including necessary employment filings, policies and procedures and liaise with external counsel to manage employment matters when appropriate
  •  Provide the necessary employment support to the local HR team in relation with the employee’s lifecycle including recruiting; hiring; employee relations; discipline, compensation, benefits, bonus & equity awards and terminations
  •  Support the business expansion and transformation by advising on various range of collective employment issues including redundancies, transfer of undertaking, acquisition, etc
  •  Monitor changes to regulatory requirements and proactively handle regulatory developments and advisory work related to a broad range of regulated areas including; payments, trading and investments, insurance, plus many more.
  •  Provide time-sensitive support on a wide array of legal inquiries in connection with all aspects of India operations
  •  Identify and consult on legal risks in connection with the development of new products

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
