Details of the Moot Court Competition

The Surana & Surana National Corporate Law Moot was created to provide opportunities for learning the development of jurisprudence on emerging trends in Corporate Law as well as developing cutting-edge skills in research, writing, and advocacy.

The Surana & Surana National Corporate Law Moot Court Competition will include a judgement writing competition with the following principles and goals:

  • Aside from the primary principle of promoting the rule of law and upholding justice, a judgement serves a social and civic function.
  • To accomplish the foregoing, it must “execute with clarity of thought, explain the decision to the parties, communicate reasons for the decision to the public, and provide a reason for an appeal court to consider.”
  • To cultivate a well-balanced and prudent mind.
  • Prevent the abuse of the legal system.

Eligibility

The competition is open to students studying LLB three-year or five-year courses in the current academic year who are interested in Tax, Corporate, and Commercial Laws and who are from invited institutions.
Students of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and The Institute of Company Secretaries of India are also eligible. Students who have already completed their law/Company Secretary/Chartered Accountant degrees/courses are ineligible.

Location

The virtual version of the 19th Surana & Surana National Corporate Law Moot Court Competition will be held.

Registration process

  • Online registration will be available beginning October 1, 2021. Teams must register online by October 28th, 2021.
  • Teams must register online at www.moot.in.
  • On a first-come, first-served basis, only 50 teams will be registered to compete.
  • There will be no temporary registration requests accepted. Please do not send such requests to Surana & Surana or JSSLS.
  • On successful registration submission, participants will receive an automated system generated acknowledgement. Participants will receive approval as acceptance of their participation request by the 30th of October 2021 or earlier.

(or) Email communication from your university/college/moot society’s official ID (to be filled in as notification email id during online registration process) to complete the registration process.

About SVKM’s NMIMS Navi Mumbai

Established in the year 2018, SVKM’s NMIMS School of Law, Navi Mumbai offers two courses, BA-LL.B (Hons.) and BBA-LL.B (Hons.), in order to provide the legal industry with young lawyers in the field of corporate law as well as in the judiciary and other likewise law professions. About The Conference

The National Corporate Law Conference (NCLC) is a global initiative to bring together the best research in M&A, Corporate governance, Venture Capital and Corporate Securities relating to Corporate Law at a yearly conference to be held at SVKM’s NMIMS School of Law, Navi Mumbai. The aim of the conference is to attract current research papers of the highest scholarly quality in the field of corporate Law. The conferences are primarily ‘academic-to-academic’ events with some participants from industry and the public sector and other invited panelists.

Procedure of Paper selection

Selections will be made by a Conference Committee from papers that are submitted online before 30th November, 2021 (at midnight IST) through the form contained below. Researchers will be notified whether their paper has been accepted for the Presentation at the conference before 12th December, 2021.

Organization

The conference will take place over two days. In addition to the research presentations, there will be two panel discussions involving participants from industry and the public sector.

THE MOOT COURT SOCIETY

The Moot Court Society (MCS) of School of Law is a student run body under the able guidance of our faculty
coordinators. The society seeks to channelize students into the activity of mooting. The primary goal of MCS is to
provide all students with the opportunity to harbour research, oral advocacy skills, legal drafting skills and other essential prowess to mould a student into an adept mooter. In order to achieve this objective, MCS organizes various
events like Moot Primer (for novice mooters), Introductory Moot Rounds for 1st-year students, Internal Moot Championship between 1st and 2ndyear students, Internal National Ranking Rounds, Internal International Scheduled Moot Ranking Rounds and our flagship event – National Moot Court Competition which is an inter-collegiate event. Teams of SLCU have a long tradition of excellence in mooting and advocacy at both national and international levels. This year as well, MCS strives to promote and foster a vibrant mooting culture to reach greater heights and set new benchmarks.

THE NATIONAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION

The National Moot Court Competition (NMCC), which has attracted significant attention from students around the
country and has evolved into one of the most prestigious moots in the country, has been one of the most prominent
events on the MCS calendar over the years. The past editions of the NMCC have revolved around the propositions with subject matters primarily relating to Constitutional Law, Competition Law, Arbitration Law and Tax Laws. Additionally, the NMCC has had the pleasure of hosting eminent dignitaries such as Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Hon ‘ble Mr. Justice A.K. Sikri, Hon’ble Mr. Justice L. Nageswara Rao, Late Mr. Ram Jethmalani, Ms. Indira Jaising, and many other notable figures from the Legal world. The 12th Flagship Edition of the National Moot Court Competition is scheduled to be held from 18th to 21st November 2021 virtually, and it shall strive to carry forward the same legacy in providing a holistic experience of mooting in the virtual format.

About Department of Law

The Department of Law was established in 2017 by introducing a five-year integrated BA LL.B degree course. Established as a unit of the Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management Studies, the Department aims to provide quality education with a professional approach to the budding legal professionals. The year 2020 has added another feather to its cap with the introduction of the five-year integrated BBA LL.B course. Entry to the five-year course is through the rankings of the CLAT (Common Law Aptitude Test). The Department is equipped with requisite facilities like Moot Court, Legal Services Clinic, etc., as stipulated by the Bar Council of India. It has a mix of senior seasoned faculty as well as young and dynamic faculty.

MAIMS 2nd National Moot Court Competition, 2021

Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management Studies 2nd National Moot Court Competition, 2021, aims to provide a platform for students across India to showcase their advocacy and research skills by competing in a professional and challenging environment. The purpose of organizing this competition is to help the participants nurture their prime advocacy skills. The Department of Law, MAIMS has been successful in organizing several mega-events in the recent past, including Intra Moot Court Competition (2019), Intra Trial Advocacy Competition (2020), 1st National Moot Court Competition (2020) as well as an Induction Moot Court Competition. The Inaugural Ceremony of the event will be organised in a Physical Mode (subject to the prevailing Government Protocols). In wake of the pandemic, we are holding the Competition Rounds at a Virtual Platform in order to ensure safety of the participants.

COMPETITION GUIDELINES

I. PROGRAM DETAILS

The MAIMS 2nd National Moot Court Competition, 2021, will be held in a Hybrid Mode from 26th November to 28th November 2021.

  • The competition is open for students who are pursuing LL.B three-year / five-year course during the current academic year.
  • Only one team is permitted to participate from each participating Institution.
  • Each team shall consist of three members. This number cannot be modified under any circumstances.
  • In a team consisting of three members, two members shall be designated as ‘Speakers,’ and the third member shall be designated as ‘Researcher.’
  • All the participating teams must confirm participation by filling a Registration Form on or before October 25, 2021.
  • As per the rules, each team upon completition of registration shall be allotted a unique Team Code for the competition. Each team must use the Team Code for further communication with the organizers during the course of the competition.
  • Any change in team composition must be intimated to the Organizer at the earliest through e-mail (mootcourtsociety@maims.ac.in). Such change must be accompanied by a freshly filled registration form.
  • Participants will receive an approval email, signifying the acceptance of their request for participation latest by October 27, 2021.
  • The participating teams are required to pay Rs. 3,000/- as registration fees

The Centre for Constitutional Law and Policy (CCLP) at Parul Institute of Law aims to conduct specialised research in the field of Constitutional Law and Policy. The study of comparative public law is inextricably linked to global governance mechanisms. A comparative analysis is much more than just an academic exercise. The goal of comparative law is to improve one’s own legal system by analysing different legal systems from around the world. Despite the overwhelming importance of comparative public law, studies in this field are not as numerous as in other disciplines.

The Conference aims to provide a forum for academics, professionals, researchers, and students to debate and evaluate the current legislative framework and policies. It also aims to analyse the innovations and development of the broad areas covered in comparative public law in order to come up with long-term solutions to issues in modern-day justice delivery mechanisms.

About RGNUL Financial and Mercantile Law Review

The RGNUL Financial and Mercantile Law Review (RFMLR) is a bi-annual, student run, double- blind peer-reviewed law journal published by RGNUL, Punjab. The journal was first published in the year 2014 and gives an opportunity to the legal academia, legal professionals, and law students to contribute cutting-edge doctrinal and empirical research in the field of business and commercial laws. The journal is indexed on SCC Online and has been ranked as the 6th most accessed law school journals by SCC Online.

ABOUT VOLUME IX ISSUE I

In Volume IX Issue I, the Editorial Board aspires to undertake a comprehensive review of recent happenings across all domains of business laws, and thus, has decided to invite submissions relating to all areas of business and allied laws. In furtherance, the author(s) can make submissions pertaining to various areas of business and commercial laws such as corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, competition, insolvency, banking and finance, insurance, capital markets,
securities, dispute resolution and ADR, international trade, investment funds, labour and employment, taxation, intellectual property, real estate, technology, media & telecommunication, and white-collar crimes. Submissions encouraging an insightful discourse around any contemporary developments in the field of business and allied laws are also welcome.

ELIGIBILITY

The Editorial Board invites submissions from legal practitioners, professionals,
academics, and law students.

CATEGORIES OF SUBMISSION AND WORD LIMIT

RFMLR accepts submissions in the following categories:
• Long Article: 6000-12,000 words
• Short Article: 4000-6000 words
• Case Comment: 3000-5000 words
• Book Review: 1500-3000 words
The word limit is exclusive of footnotes.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

GENERAL

  • The submissions shall be in English language only.
  • Co-authorship is limited to a maximum of two authors.
  • The Editorial Board prefers submissions that are lucid, contemporarily relevant, grammatically coherent, and well-researched. The submission should contain a novel analysis of the legal issues addressed by the author(s). The Editorial Board encourages analytical submissions with concrete suggestions over descriptive submissions with generic suggestions.
  • Any form of plagiarism is strictly prohibited and the submission shall be original, unpublished, and an outcome of the author’s own efforts.
  • The author(s) bear sole responsibility for the accuracy of facts, opinions and views stated in the submitted manuscript.
  • The name(s) of the author(s) or institution(s) must not be mentioned anywhere in the body of the submission.
  • The author(s) shall refrain from submitting the manuscript elsewhere during the pendency of the review process. If the theme of the manuscript is contemporaneous to the time of submission and a delayed publication would render the research irrelevant, the author(s) may request an expedited review of their submission. Request for expeditious review is granted by the Editorial Board at its discretion on a case-by-case basis.
  • The author(s) are required to submit an abstract, not exceeding 250 words, within their manuscript.
  • The author(s) shall refrain from referring themselves in first person in the manuscript. Further, while referring to case laws, the author(s) shall use the names of the parties instead of referring them as “petitioners”, “appellants”, “respondents”, etc.
  • Since RFMLR is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal, the review process is very thorough to ensure that only the finest manuscripts get published in the journal. The Editorial Board strives to review the manuscripts expeditiously. However, since the peer reviewers are working professionals, the entire review process, especially the peer review stage, can take some time. The author(s) are requested to duly take this into cognizance while submitting the manuscript

FORMATTING

  • Body: Submissions shall be typewritten in Times New Roman, font size 12 with line spacing 1.5 and justified alignment.
  • Footnotes: Citations shall be in accordance with The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (20th Ed.). All the footnotes shall be typewritten in Times New Roman, font size 10 with single line spacing and justified alignment. Use of speaking footnotes is strictly prohibited.

PROCEDURE

  • The manuscripts shall be submitted through this Google Form only. Submissions made through any other mode will not be entertained.
  • Each author is allowed to submit a maximum of one manuscript.
  • Manuscript is to be submitted in .doc or .docx format.
  • The author(s) shall submit the manuscript along with a duly signed Certificate of Originality and Copyright (in this format).

About The Organizers:

The Law and Technology Society of NLSIU, Bangalore is a group committed to exploring the boundless contours of the intriguing interface between law and technology. The main objective of the Society is to develop up-to-date learning opportunities in this field by organizing a series of fantastic events. The Dialogue is a research-driven think-tank working on the intersection of technology, society, and public policy. By facilitating informed policy debates at various levels, it aims to drive a progressive narrative in India’s policy discourse.

Theme of the competition

The dynamic nature of the internet requires us to revisit the traditional frameworks and explore more enabling policies for regulating competition in digital space. To encourage critical thinking and public speaking on inter-disciplinary issues the motion for the rounds will be based on ‘Competition Law in the Digital Space.’

Guidelines for the Competition

  • 2 vs 2 format
  • Participants are encouraged to register in a team of two, however in exceptional cases one can register individually as well. The OC will match the individual registrants through randomised allotment a day before the rounds.
  • 6 minutes will be given to each speaker
  • 1.5 minutes will be given to each team for rebuttals
  • No. of Pre-break Rounds: 3
  • Motions for all the pre break rounds will be released 24 hours in advance

Eligibility Criteria

Students/research scholars enrolled in any UG/PG/Ph.D. course from any university are eligible to participate in the competition.

Note: Prior knowledge of law is not prerequisite for participation. The motions will be framed keeping in mind the interests of all the participants and short explainers shall also be released by the organisers on their social media platforms to assist the participants in their preparation.

Awards

● Mentorship session: All participants will be invited to attend a mentorship session with the echelons of the legal and tech fraternity on the first day of the competition.
● Exciting Cash Prizes:
➔ The Best Team and Runners Up will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 and 15,000 respectively.
➔ The semi finalist teams will be awarded Rs. 5,000 each.
➔ The best speaker and second best speaker will be awarded with Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively.

ABOUT THE JOURNAL

The NLUO Law Journal (ISSN 2348-8913) is the flagship publication of National Law University Odisha. The biannual peer-reviewed journal aims to encourage legal scholarship in national and international interdisciplinary legal issues. The journal publishes and curates frontier research in multiple fields under the broad umbrella of contemporary issues in the legal field. While past editions of the journal have included special issues on topical relevance, there is no strict delineation and authors are encouraged to add to the discourse with a topic of their choice for this issue.

THEME FOR THE ISSUE

This issue of the NLUO Law Journal, Volume IX, has no limitations based on theme and will be accepting submissions on broad legal concerns with respect to public law, private law or other cross-cutting issues.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The NLUO Law Journal is published tentatively in the months of January and July every year and accepts submissions on a rolling basis from external contributors. All submissions must be accompanied with a covering letter indicating the name of the author, title of the submission and the email address of the author. The submissions will be reviewed and edited by the Editorial Board under the supervision of the Editor in Chief. Submissions can be in the form of long articles, short notes, case comment/Legislative Comments and book reviews.

WORD LIMIT

The acceptable word limit should not
exceed:
o Long Articles: 8000-10000 words
o Short Notes: 4000-8000 words
o Case Comments/Legislative Comments: 3000 words
o Book Review: 2000-3000 words

  1. All the word limits mentioned above are exclusive of footnotes. Kindly note that the word limits will be strictly enforced.
  2. All the submissions must consist of an Abstract of not more than 300 words, highlighting the main contribution and a declaration of originality is also to be sent. The abstract will not be included in the word limit. The submission must be sent along with upto 6 Keywords mentioned below the Abstract in the manuscript.
  3. A submission can be co-authored by a maximum of two people. Submissions are invited from academicians, practitioners and research scholars.
  4. In the event that authors send more than one submission for consideration, only the first submission shall be reviewed for publication.
  5. A submission, not published in the issue the author has sent it for, can be considered for publication in the future issues.

FORMATTING AND CITATION GUIDELINES

  • An appropriate Title must be mentioned in the cover page of the submission. The Title should be Font Type and Size, Times New Roman and 16 respectively. It should be center aligned.
  • The submission should not contain any biographical information of the author throughout the manuscript.
  • The body of the text must be font type – Times New Roman, Font Size 12. The alignment should be justified.
  • The footnotes must be font type – Time New Roman, Font Size 10. The alignment should be justified.
  • The Line Spacing of the main text and footnotes must be 1.5, 1 respectively.
  • Use of headings and Subheadings is encouraged throughout the text. Headings: Centre Aligned, Bold, and Font Size – 14, Font Type – Times New Roman. Subheadings: Justified Alignment, Bold, Italicized, Font Size – 12 and Font Type – Times New Roman.
  • Citations must be uniform and in the OSCOLA Format (4th Edition).

PROCEDURE OF SUBMISSION

  1. Authors are requested to send their original, unpublished submissions in .doc/.docx
    format to nluojournal@nluo.ac.in
  2. The name of the file must be saved as: Name of the Author(s) + Title of the Submission.
  3. The submissions must be accompanied by a covering letter bearing the following
    information:
    ❖ Full Name of the Author(s)
    ❖ Position / Year of Study (if applicable, of all author(s))
    ❖ Institutional Affiliations (if any)
    ❖ Contact Details of the Author / Co-Author
  4. The email forwarding the submission must contain the following subject line,
    “SUBMISSION – ‘Name of Author’ – ‘Title of the Paper’ – Vol IX Iss I”.
  5. The authors are required to mention any relevant identification information on the
    body of the email as well, including their name, contact details, institutional affiliation (if
    any). The authors are also encouraged to add a bio in a separate word file with such
    details as deemed necessary and relevant.

About Moot Court Competition

CT University’s 1st Prof.(Dr.)Basant K. Sharma Memorial National Moot Court Competition (Virtual) aims at providing a
platform to law students to hone their mooting and articulation skills. During the past 2 years amidst pandemic, approximately every family’s dynamics changed, putting lots of long lasting impacts. This Moot Court Competition is designed to enable law students to identify the contemporary legal issues in the family law domain.

This Moot Court Competition is organised in the memory of (Late) Prof. (Dr.) Basant K. Sharma who served as an academician with Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh for more than 30 years. His zeal for teaching and love for community service can still be found amongst his students and the people he worked with.

Guidelines for the moot court competition

The 1st Prof. (Dr.)Basant K. Sharma Memorial National Moot Court Competition(Virtual) has been organized by CT
University.

Eligibility Criteria :

  1. The Competition shall be open for ‘bona de’ students who are pursuing an integrated 5 Years or 3 Years law Program during current academic year in India from an institution recognized by the Bar Council of India.
  2. Only one team is permitted to participate from each participating institution.

Language & Dress code:

The Language shall be English and the dress code shall be formal.
a. Ladies: White Salwar and Kurta or White shirt and black Pant/black skirt along with black coat and black shoes.
b. Gentlemen: White shirt, black trousers, black tie along with black coat and black shoes.

Team Composition:

  1. Each team shall consist of 3 Students (1 as speaker,2nd as speaker and 3rd as researcher).
  2. Each team should identify such speakers and researchers at the time of registration. e researcher is not permied to speak
  3. There shall be no substitution of any team member after a team has submitted its Registration form, except with the permission of the Organizers
