ABOUT

Vidhi is an independent think-tank doing legal research to make better laws and improve governance for the public good. Vidhi is committed to producing legal research of the highest standard with the aim of informing public debate and contributing to improved governance. Vidhi works with Ministries of the Government of India and State Governments, as well as other public institutions, providing research and drafting support at various stages of law-making. Vidhi also conducts and freely disseminates independent research in areas of legal reform which it believes is critical to India’s future.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Vidhi is looking for one Research Fellow for its Legal Design and Regulation vertical. You can access a brief description of this vertical, and the work that it does here. 

The Research Fellow will be expected to:

1. Undertake high-quality research on a wide range of issues pertaining to regulatory reform, administrative law, and constitutional law as well as its intersections with public health, technology, gender, media, agriculture, labor, and employment. 

2. Coordinate closely and attend meetings with government officials, academics, researchers, and other stakeholders.

3. Engage with government officials on ongoing and new projects in conceptualizing reports and drafting legislation.

4. Be organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet short deadlines.

5. Prepare reports, research notes, and presentations.

6. Organize and attend consultations with key stakeholders for informing and disseminating Vidhi’s research.

7. Write articles, and blogs and participate in podcasts to disseminate research work.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements

●        an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in law

●        2-4 years of work experience (LL.M will be counted as one year of work experience)

●        excellent research and writing skills

●        excellent communication skills

Desirable Requirements

Applicants who have prior experience in working and publishing on critical issues of law and policy in the areas of public health, technology, gender, constitutional law, regulation, and administrative law will be preferred. 

LOCATION

● This is a full-time position based out of New Delhi.

● The Research Fellow will be engaged in this position for a duration of one year, and renewal shall be subject to performance.

● Remuneration will be commensurate to the level of skill and experience.

ELIGIBILITY

Indicative Age: 21-30 years

Must have some volunteer experience with the community, with a minimum 1 year of equivalent work experience

STIPEND

Around 30,000 per month during the entire period of grassroots work. This will be in the form of a direct stipend, dedicated fixed deposits, house rent allowance, and other allowances. Apart from this, there would be an additional investment of around ₹15,000 per month per fellow, on the training. This would be in the form of courses, reflective activities, immersive programs, and hands-on workshops.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum will be deeply rooted in a doer’s perspective of social development at the grassroots. The entire structure is based on three pillars i.e. knowledge, skill, and will-power of the individual. The fellows would undergo 300 hours of curriculum each year, from residential boot camps, retreat camps, and online lectures. This is over and beyond the learning experiences that would happen while working on the ground.

The curriculum is an outcome of a deep reflection on India’s current and future needs, and the preparedness needed to fulfill the same. The curriculum is built with extensive consultations with grassroots leaders, domain experts, and senior academicians. SELECTION PROCESS

There are two formats to apply:

  • Direct sign-up by the applicant.
  • Nomination by his/her senior. This can be a reporting manager, professor, teacher, guru, colleague, or mentor.

This would be followed by an application form and a statement of purpose.

The next stage of the selection involves some activities that the fellow would need to undertake in his/her own location/geography, followed by a telephonic conversation.

The next stage involves in-person interaction with some group activities.

The activities in both stages are designed to fulfill three purposes: fun-filled learnings, understanding the on-ground nature of the fellows, and providing an immersive perspective of the fellowship and the aspiring fellow.

CALENDAR

The entire fellowship program is structured to maximize learning for the fellows. Here are some key elements:

  • Social BootCamp: We begin the program with a 21-day residential Bootcamp to provide a landscape view of the social sector, train them on key skills needed, and build perspective on development and grassroots change.
  • Grassroots Work: Each fellow would have a dedicated project to serve a community. This can be in any domain of development, like education, health, livelihoods, etc, based on the available projects and interests of the fellow.
  • Immersive Programs: Every 3-4 months, the fellows would join an immersive program with a senior social leader to deepen their understanding of society, nation, and the world.
  • Weekend Sessions: Every weekend, the fellows would have 2-3 sessions in the form of courses, peer activities, mentor sessions, and reflective exercises.

The National University of Singapore Faculty of Law (NUS Law) is pleased to invite applications for Sheridan Fellowship.

ABOUT

These full-time positions are intended to serve as a bridge between either undergraduate study or work in the legal profession and a tenure-track academic position with a strong foundation in Singapore law.

Successful candidates will be appointed for two years on a competitive salary. You will teach half of the standard faculty workload, typically by joining one of the team-taught compulsory subjects. The reduced load will free up considerable time for research, supported by a faculty mentor who will read and comment on your work, and advise on publication avenues. Sheridan Fellows are expected to actively participate in faculty events and to present at least one paper in the Faculty Research Workshop.

  1. An outstanding undergraduate LLB degree.
  2. Demonstrated potential to produce high quality research.

REDRESS is seeking Legal Fellowship applications from excellent graduates, postgraduates and individuals in the early stages of their careers with a strong background in international human rights law to contribute to REDRESS’s work in either London or The Hague.

ABOUT

Legal Fellows at REDRESS are exposed to all aspects of working at a human rights organisation. The work typically includes:

  • Undertaking legal and policy research at the national, regional and international level;
  • Developing policy positions and drafting legal and policy reports;
  • Networking and attending meetings with high-level stakeholders;
  • Developing advocacy strategies and drafting advocacy briefings;
  • Drafting submissions before regional or international courts and UN mechanisms;
  • Organising events;
  • Assisting with fundraising and communications work; and
  • Administrative tasks as required.

In addition, fellows sometimes have the opportunity to be involved in casework, but this cannot be guaranteed. As REDRESS is a relatively small organisation, fellows take an active role in all aspects of our work and have the opportunity to get fully involved in our projects,  supported by REDRESS staff. Fellows are treated as valued members of the team and make a meaningful contribution to REDRESS’ work.

ELIGIBILITY

The following are essential:

In order to be eligible, candidates must meet the following requirements. Candidates must:

  • Have received, and accepted, an offer of admission for a taught Masters degree at the University of Birmingham UK Campus to study in the 2022/23 academic year.
  • Be classed as ‘domiciled’ in one of the eligible countries.
  • Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee purposes.
  • Start their studies at the University in September/ October 2022 on a course delivered on-campus.
  • Have paid the standard £2,000 Admissions deposit by 30 June 2022.
  • Be academically exceptional and able to provide evidence for this in the scholarship application statement. Candidates should have, or be expecting to achieve, a first class overall grade (at least 70% in the UK system) in a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

For example, we consider a UK first class degree to be equivalent to the following grading systems in the US, India, Nigeria, and China:

  • 3.5 out of 4.0 and above in the US GPA system.
  • 70% in the Indian grading system
  • 3.5 (out of 4.0) or 4.5 (out of 5.0) or 6.2 (out of 7.0) in the Nigerian grading system
  • 85% grade awarded by a top tier Chinese University, 90% grade awarded by a mid-tier Chinese University

Students in receipt of a full scholarship or sponsorship covering full tuition fees from an alternative internal or external source are not eligible for this scholarship. Those with other partial awards may be able to conjoin this scholarship with other scholarships.

ABOUT

In 1996, Independence Foundation established the Public Interest Law Fellowships.  Through the fellowship program, the Foundation funds the compensation and employment benefits for accomplished young lawyers who have decided to direct their considerable talents to public interest service.

PROGRAMS DESCRIPTIONS

Fellows work for a sponsoring legal services organization serving the disadvantaged whose work has been funded previously by Independence Foundation. The Foundation requires that the focus of all Fellowship work be on direct representation of disadvantaged clients. The Foundation also assists the Fellows in repayment of their often substantial educational loans.

ELIGIBILITY
