School of Law, NMIMS, Navi Mumbai is conducting the 3rd National Level Debate Competition on September 23 and 24, 2022.

ABOUT

ERISTICA is the flagship event of the Debate Committee of the School of Law. ERISTICA was first started in 2020, in hopes of providing the students with some relief during the pandemic. The 3rd annual Eristica 2022 will follow the ‘3-on-3’ Asian parliamentary style of debating.

ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to all students pursuing any course from a UGC-affiliated university.

TOPIC

Topics range from different themes such as Entertainment, Socio-legal, Politics and so on.

Ideal Institute of Management and Technology is organizing a debate competition on the Legal Implications of Abortion Laws.

ABOUT

Ideal Institute of Management and Technology was established in the year 1999 under the auspices of the New Millennium Education Society. The institute is affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, and its professional courses in Law and Business Administration are recognized by the Bar Council of India and the Government of NCT, Delhi.

ELIGIBILITY

The Competition is open to all colleges/university students from all countries. Students enrolled in any UG/PG course are eligible to participate in the competition.
Each team shall comprise two participants with one speaking for and the other against the motion.
The motions will be framed keeping in mind the interests of all the participants.

STRUCTURE

The format of the debate will be based upon the Lincoln-Douglas model of debating with a few modifications.
Participants are encouraged to register in a team of two under the banner of their respective institutions.
An institution shall be allowed to send a maximum of two teams for the competition.
Each participant shall be allotted a maximum of 5 minutes to speak (4 minutes for constructive speech and 1 minute for rebuttal).
Exceeding the time limit shall prejudice the team’s overall score.
Participants can choose the medium for the debate as English/Hindi. Switching the chosen language is strictly prohibited.

SATHYABAMA University is organizing 4 NATIONAL DEBATE COMPETITION.

ABOUT

Sathyabama is a prestigious institution which excels in the fields of Engineering, Science and Technology for more than three successful decades. It offers multidisciplinary academic programmes in various fields of Engineering, Science, Technology, law, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Nursing, Management, Arts and Science and Allied Health Sciences. It is established under Sec.3 of UGC Act, 1956 and is been Accredited with ‘A’ Grade by the National Accreditation and Assessment council. The Institution persistently seeks and adopts innovative methods to improve the quality of higher education and is responsive to the changes taking place in the field of education on a global scale.

OBJECTIVES OF DEBATE

To promote the art of debate and eloquence among students.
To provide a significant training ground for the development of students with regard to their communicative abilities.
To create learning situations in which students develop proficiencies based on sound educational and communicational theories.
To understand and communicate various forms of arguments effectively in a variety of context.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Participants are required to submit their Covid Vaccination Certificate (two doses) on their arrival to the venue of competition.
Participants are strictly advised to wear mask and maintain social distancing among the fellow participants and the organizers.
Participants are requested to bring their college ID (Identity) Cards with them.
Last minute registration for participating in the 4th National Debate Competition will also be encouraged.
Once the registration is completed registration fee will not be refunded.
There is no restriction on number of participants from the same institution.
The awards, certificates of merit and certificates of participation shall be given during the valedictory ceremony. No certificate will be given to the team before or after the valedictory function.
All decisions by the organizers will be final and the organizers may make such as rules and regulation at any point as they deem fit.

ABOUT THE DEBATE COMPETITION

VIPS is inviting interested and eligible candidates for the international debate competition to be held on August 4 and 5, 2022

THEME

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND DATA BREACH

ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to all the college students from across the globe
Students enrolled in any UG/PG course are eligible

A maximum of two teams per institution

RULES

The format of the debate will be based on the LINCOLN – DOUGLAS model of debating
2 v. 2 format
There will be a pre-break round in the competition. In post break, the rounds will be in Octa- finals, quarterfinals, semi-finals, and the grand finale
5 minutes will be given to each speaker and 1.5 for rebuttals in the pre-break round. The time limit for the post-break shall be 6 minutes and 2 minutes for the rebuttals.

Candidates should avoid disputable aspects while debating.
The decision of the judges would be final.
Each candidate would be given a participation certificate.
The teams from each college shall be allotted a team code; revealing of the identity of the student and college shall amount to direct disqualification of the team.

About the Competition

Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Law is elated to organize the Lincoln-Douglas debate. Through the means of this competition, the focus will be on the conflicting values of social and philosophical issues, for example, by examining questions of morality, justice, democracy, etc.

Two debaters arguing for and against a resolution will be evaluated by the coaches whether or not certain actions, or states of affairs, are good or bad, right or wrong, moral or immoral.

There will fixtures will be decided randomly between two participants.
The format of this debate would be 1v1 i.e both the participants will be expected to make arguments in favor and against the topic with the option of cross- examination and rebuttal their opponent once.
No use of unparliamentary language would be accepted, the participants are expected to treat each other and the judges with the utmost respect.
The topic of the debate would be based on a topic of current affairs and would be released with the fixture list in order to give relevant preparation time to the participants.

Semi-final and final round – Should the Uniform Civil Code be implemented in India?

About the Organiser

The Department of Laws, Panjab University originally established in 1889 at Lahore, was re-established at University Campus at Chandigarh in 1959.

Its Alumni include Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts, Union Cabinet Ministers, State Chief Ministers, Cabinet Ministers, Ambassadors, Senior Bureaucrats, Police Officers and other legal luminaries.

About the Competition

The Department has the practice of conducting series of special lectures in memory of Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan and S. Ajit Singh Sarhadi to acknowledge their contributions in the field of law.

As a sequel to such prestigious memorial lectures, the Department of Laws is organizing its First Virtual Prof. Anil Kumar Thakur Memorial National Debate Competition to pay homage to our dear colleague, who left us for heavenly abode very untimely.

A very humble and down to earth human being, very progressive and a brilliant teacher, and a very passionate debater who always motivated and guided the students to participate in debates. In order to keep his passion for debating alive, we at the Department of Laws take pride in announcing that this debate competition.

Law is the norm of society and every individual is associated with it, thus, the topic of the competition is also relevant to the current social circumstances, which follow as “Social Media and Right to Privacy”

They hope that through this platform, students get an opportunity to share their thoughts related to the burning socio-legal topic.

This is a virtual debate competition via “Google Meet” platform.
Each team should comprise of two members. Single member team would be considered as disqualified team.
Team should prepare from both side of the motion. Motion would be assigned to the team prior to commencement of round in the online room.
Only 24 teams shall be considered for Preliminary Round of the Debate Competition based on first come first registered basis. First Come First Registered means the first dully complete registration form reaching on or last date of registration till 12:00PM.
Out of 24, top scoring 12 teams shall be advanced to Semi-Final round and top scoring 02 Teams shall be advanced to Final round.
