The CLS-TNNLU is an active academic society that has been working diligently towards making all of the student fraternity aware of their constitutional rights and duties.

They have been a robust group in advancing legal knowledge by conducting seminars, webinars, debates, guest lectures, and essay competitions for both the students of TNNLU and other universities. The CLS-TNNLU has conducted many successful events, such as the flagship Annual Quiz in collaboration with the National Commission for Women and the India-US Constitutional Law Debate in association with the US Consulate General, Chennai.

About the Blog

The CLS Blog is a forum created by the Constitutional Law Society, TNNLU to enrich the dialogue surrounding contemporary issues of Constitutional Law.

The blog aims to provide a platform for the TNNLU fraternity including practitioners, academic scholars, and students to contribute to the growing discourse.

Constitutional Law Society of Tamil Nadu National Law University (CLS-TNNLU) primarily accepts submissions related to Constitutional Law but welcomes and actively encourages interdisciplinary engagement. This is in keeping with their goal to spread awareness of all aspects of Constitutional Law, and its intersection with other fields of study. 

This month, submissions are invited on the theme- Principles of Constitutional Democracy and Indian Elections.

A Note on the Theme

Elections in India function as the reins that bind the spirit of democracy, and as citizens, we must keep the reins as taut as possible. Election Laws in India have evolved over the years, with the Election Commission(s) carefully constructing regulations for elections, to fulfill the promise of free and fair elections. 

The world’s largest and most eclectic democracy cannot afford to compromise on a robust and efficient electoral mechanism. Thus, there arises the need for a  thorough understanding of the existing system, its merits and demerits, and possibilities for improvement. It is with this motive that the Constitutional Law Society, TNNLU has decided to explore the system of elections in this theme.

Law College Dehradun, faculty of Uttaranchal University, an institution contributing splendidly to legal education since 2002, invites you to the new edition of its annual mooting affair, the 6th Law College Dehradun National Moot Court Competition at Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

About the Moot

The Constitution of our country is the suprema lex, it is the law to which all laws subscribe and must adhere. Law College Dehradun, faculty of Uttaranchal University National Moot Court Competition is an annually hosted national level moot court competition based on Constitutional Law.

This Competition is considered to be of great repute by the mooting circuits of the country. It is administered by the Moot Court Society of the college. Other than contributing to the field of Constitutional Law, this Competition serves as a channel through which young law students can showcase and hone their advocacy skills.

The first edition of the Competition was won by NUJS, Kolkata; the second by NLU, Jodhpur; the third edition was won by Hidayatullah National Law University; the fourth edition was won by Chanakya National Law University and the fifth edition was won by Christ University.

This year, once again, we welcome participation from the best law schools/colleges/universities of the country, in expectation to chisel out the proficient lawyers and judges of the future.

Mode of the Competition: The University is determined to organize this competition in Offline mode but in case of any circumstances beyond the control of the University (pandemic) the competition shall be converted into Online/Virtual mode and Rupees 2000/- shall be refunded.

Students of 3/5 year LL.B. degree courses from any institution recognized by B.C.I. and LL.M. students (not enrolled as advocates) are eligible to participate. Provided that only one team may participate per institution.

About the Moot

IILM Law School, Gurugram is delighted to announce the 1st IILM National Moot Court Competition, 2022 that shall allow students to deal with an exceptionally crafted hypothetical case and showcase their argumentative skills.

The event shall be held offline.

Moot Proposition

The moot proposition for the 1st IILM National Moot Court Competition has been crafted with the view of providing a holistic understanding of laws relating to Artificial Intelligence, Constitutional Law and The Indian Penal Code. 

Eligibility and Team Composition

Eligibility: Students pursuing an undergraduate degree (3-year LLB program or a 5-year integrated LLB program)

• Each team shall comprise three members (two speakers and a researcher).
• Two-member teams are strictly ineligible to participate

Submission and Formatting Guidelines

• The manuscript must be submitted with an abstract, which shall not be more than 350 words and should contain a minimum of three keywords.
• The manuscript must be in English only, in Microsoft Word (MS-Word) format, with the font size 12 in Times New Roman with 1.5 line spacing for the main text and size 10 in Times New Roman with single line spacing for footnotes. The author must adhere to the OSCOLA citation format.
• The manuscript must be accompanied by a covering email providing the author’s name and name of the institution/organization. The author shall not include their name or any other identity in the manuscript, in any form.
• Professional writing is encouraged and expect authors to avoid foul or defamatory language.
• No publication/contribution fees is charged at any stage of publication.
• The deadline for submissions for Volume 1 Issue 1 is March 31, 2022.

The Integral Law Review is a peer-reviewed journal that follows double-blind methods, which means that both the reviewer/editors and the author identities are concealed from the reviewers/editors, and vice versa, throughout the review process. About the Organiser

Team Composition

• Every team shall consist either of three members (two speakers and one researcher) or four members (two speakers and two researchers)
• Only the speakers shall be allowed to address the judges in their rounds. The researchers may speak only at the discretion of the judges. In any case, it is hereby clarified that Researcher no.2 in no circumstances shall be eligible to address the bench.
• The above-mentioned registration fee does not include the cost for travelling/food services for such fourth member.

About the Organiser

The LCHSI is the brainchild of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) V.S. Elizabeth who is a Professor of History and has teaching experience of nearly 40 years.

The Centre was established in the year 2020 and is under the leadership of our Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) V.S. Elizabeth, assisted by Dr P. Kumar, Assistant Professor of History and Mr V. Ravindran, Research Assistant, LCHSI.

Legal Centre for History of South India, TNNLU, Tiruchirappalli is the first of its kind among the National Law Universities, setup exclusively for collecting data on the legal history of South India in general, and specifically of the Legal History of Tamil Nadu.

About the Conference

The concept of justice has been debated upon for millennia. It has been one of the most exciting and controversial ideas. It has been debated on at least three fronts. In the first place, in terms of what constitutes justice.

As a second point, the concept of justice has been affected by normative evaluations; accordingly, various explanations of justice have been predisposed to the normative impetuses of the commentators. Third, the topic of what constitutes justice has been at the centre of the debate over good laws.

An analytical breadth has been reached on the question of what are excellent laws when justice at the practical level is always given according to the law.

Every society’s definition of justice has evolved through time. In India, societies evolved an understanding of justice throughout the past from the evolution of the conception of justice as unequal castes, genders and communities in pre-modern times to ideas of justice based on English Legal Principles in modern times; and justice as expanding capacities in post-modern times.

Political ideologies, religious beliefs, cultural intolerance, poverty and hunger, gender discrimination, abuses of human rights, and inequality, among other social handicaps, have prevented common people’s access to justice even since independence.

Objectives

• To bring out the different ideas of justice through time.
• To trace the idea of justice followed by different rulers who ruled the various kingdoms in the ancient and medieval periods.
• To understand the idea of justice followed by the British during their rule and ideas of justice used to gain independence from the British.
• To observe the evolution of the idea of justice since independence.

The National Conference on “Tracing the Idea of Justice from the Pre-Independence period to the 75th year of India’s Independence”, organized by the Legal Centre for History of South India, Tamil Nadu National Law University, Tiruchirappalli will be held on August 20, 2022.

The conference invites contributions in the form of full-length scholarly papers documenting original and substantial research work.

Submission Guidelines

• The first page of the submission should only contain the title of the paper, followed by the 200-word abstract. The second page must contain a table of contents, and the main body of the manuscript should begin immediately thereafter.
• All the submissions must be original and unpublished work of the author(s). All the submissions will be checked for plagiarism and those with plagiarism percentage over the permissible limit (i.e., 15%) will be summarily rejected.
• Disclosure of information regarding the identity of the author(s), including, but not limited to name, institutional assistance, professional details, etc., within the body of the manuscript or other properties of the document submitted is strictly prohibited. Citation Guidelines:

• The authorities must be cited in the form of footnotes.
• Citations must follow a uniform format of citation throughout the submission.
• The participants are required to provide the title of the name of the author, article/report/blog, date of publication, and active web-link for the authorities cited wherever possible.
• In case of large documents such as reports, long articles, cases, etc. the author(s) must include the relevant paragraph/page of the authority being cited.
• Speaking/explanatory citations are discouraged.

Competition Guidelines:

• A co-authorship of not more than two (2) authors is permitted.
• By submitting the article, the author(s) forfeit their copyright over their manuscript in favor of the organizers.
• In case of any dispute, the decision of the organizers will be final and binding. The Centre retains absolute discretion in marking the manuscripts.

Faculty of Law was established in the year 2014 as part of Jagran Lakecity University (JLU), Bhopal, a private university established under Section 2(f) of UGC Act, 1956.

About the Competition

Drafting Memorials is a great method of learning law and legal skills that require the students to analyze and argue both sides of a hypothetical legal issue using procedures.

Giving more weight to the practice-based approach of JLU, the Moot Court Committee (MCC), Faculty of Law, is organizing the First JLU National Memorial Drafting Competition, 2022 in collaboration with Lawctopus as media partner and Memo Pundits as knowledge partner.

Teams from all over the country are invited to participate in the competition and win exciting awards and prizes. JLU endeavors to create an atmosphere of invigorating intellectual challenges.

The proposition for the competition is based on laws related to Intellectual Property Rights.

• Language: English

Eligibility

The students currently enrolled in either five years or three years LL.B. courses or LL.M. programs from any recognized University or Law College are eligible for participation in the competition. There is no restriction on the number of entries from any college or university.

Team Composition

Each team shall consist of one individual or two individuals that qualify the eligibility criteria. Multiple teams are allowed from different University/Law School/ College/Departments.

Registration Procedure

• Registration fees: Rs. 700/- (The registration fee shall be non-refundable and non-transferable in any circumstance) 
• Only 40 teams will be allowed to register in the competition on a first come first served basis. Once a team registers by completing the formalities given, a Team Code shall be assigned to the team.

Awards

• Best team (1st Position) – Prize money of Rs. 12000/- + Certificate of Merit + 1 free course of any choice offered by Memo Pundits
• Runner-up Team (2nd Position) – Prize money of Rs. 7000/- + Certificate of Merit + INR 1500/- discount coupon on any one course of choice offered by Memo Pundits
• Second Runner-up team (3rd Position) – Prize money of Rs. 3000/- + Certificate of Merit + INR 1000/- discount on any one course offered by Memo Pundits
• 4th Position to 10th Positions – Certificate of Merit
• All the participants who successfully register for this event will receive a “Certificate of Participation + 30% discount on moot mentorship after releasing the problem by Memo Pundits”.
