The Centre for Parliamentary Studies, NLIU Bhopal is seeking submissions for the second volume of the Journal for Legislative Drafting and Parliamentary Research (JLDPR).

ABOUT

After the successful release of the inaugural edition of NLIU – Journal for Legislative Drafting and Parliamentary Research (JLDPR) on the occasion of the 25th Foundation Day of NLIU, the Centre for Parliamentary Studies, NLIU (CPS) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting submissions for Volume II of the JLDPR.

The Journal is an annual, double-blind, peer-reviewed publication of CPS. It aims to generate interest in the realm of constitutional law, administrative law and public policy research. The Journal also intends to provide a forum for debate and discussion on contemporary developments in the above-listed areas.

THEME

JLDPR welcomes original, contemporary, analytical, and unpublished manuscripts on constitutional law, legislative drafting, parliamentary research, and public policy from students, academicians, and professionals.

The submissions are expected to be of contemporary relevance and must demonstrate high standards of academic scholarship.

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES

Long Articles

• Long article should provide an in-depth study of the contemporary legal issue. We intend to incorporate critical analysis and original assertions on the said issue. The word limit for the long articles can vary from
• 5,000-10,000 words (exclusive of footnotes).

Short Articles

Short articles should include condensed studies on contemporary legal issues. The nature of the writing should preferably include descriptive analysis and informed comments on any new ideas and perspectives. The word limit for the short articles can vary from 3000-5000 words (exclusive of footnotes).

Book Reviews

All the book reviews must embody an assessment of ideas promoted by the author of the book from the point of view of originality, extent of analysis, and quality. The word limit for the book review can vary from 1500- 3000 words (exclusive of footnotes).

Case Comments

Case comments should include the interpretation of any landmark judicial pronouncement on any contemporary legal issue. Brief information regarding contribution to and digression from the existing laws would be appreciated. The word limit for the case comments can vary from 1500-3000 words (exclusive of footnotes).

Legislative Briefs

Legislative briefs should determine the implications of any existing or proposed Indian legislation. The author(s) may concentrate on a specific section or sections of the legislation, or they may present an overview of the legislation. The word limit for the legislative comment can vary from 1500-3000 words (exclusive of footnotes).

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• The submissions are to be made only in Microsoft Word Format (.docx or .doc files) by sending an email to cps@nliu.ac.in. Emails must mention the subject: “Call for Papers – JLDPR | Volume II” followed by the title of the paper.
• Soft copies should be submitted by 23:59 hours, November 15, 2022.
• All articles, and short articles, must be accompanied by an abstract not exceeding 300 words.
• Heading and sub-headings will be formatted with case sizes of 14 and 12 respectively in Times New Roman and Bold.
• Body of the writing will be formatted with case size 12 in Times New Roman.
• Footnotes shall follow the line spacing of 1, and the rest of the manuscript shall follow the line spacing of 1.5.
• All referencing and footnoting shall strictly adhere to the standards laid down in the Oxford University
• Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (4th ed.). Substantive footnoting is impermissible.
• Co-authorship is permissible up to a maximum of two authors.
• The authors shall not disclose their identity anywhere in the body of the manuscript.
• The submission shall also contain a separate cover letter in the body of the email enumerating the following details:
  • Name of the author(s)
  • Address of the author(s)
  • Phone Numbers of the author(s)
  • Title of the manuscript
  • Submission Category
  • Name of the institution/Organization
  • Year of study/ Designation
  • Email address(s)
• The author(s) must include a declaration in a separate attachment attesting that the submission is the author(s)’ original work and has not been submitted to any other journal for consideration. In case of any copyright infringement claims, the editorial board of the journal shall not be liable. The author shall also vest the sole copyright of the manuscript with the CPS upon the acceptance of the submission.

NMIMS Law Review is the flagship law journal of Kirit P. Mehta School of Law, NMIMS University, Mumbai. The NMIMS Law Review is an annual publication comprising scholarly works of renowned academicians and research scholars. The use of AI in the consumer market has increased manifolds. Now personalization is not just limited to advertisements but has extended to the product, prices and contract terms also. This automation has created new degrees of opportunities, risks and liabilities for the consumers. Numerous legal firms are also employing AI for automated compliance monitoring and enforcement of consumer laws. This makes it imperative to examine the impact, positive or negative, of Artificial Intelligence on consumer protection and solve the tussle between AI and Consumer Protection Act and Motor Vehicle Act.

AI and Forensics

Forensics as a subject is a complex intersection of science and law. AI has entered multiple arenas of forensics like digital forensics, multimedia forensics, speaker identification, image processing etc. It plays a crucial role in deciding cases. It can enhance the likelihood of detecting fraud, cybercrime, and other illegal activities. However, there is no proper guideline or statute adhering to international standards regulating investigators and experts. Another major legal concern is its admissibility in the court. Therefore, we need to deliberate on the issues and challenges faced to chart a way.

AI and Intellectual Property Laws

AI in near future can disrupt the field of intellectual Property. It is at a complex juncture with copyright, patent and trademark. AI-enabled systems can create breakthrough inventions without any human intervention. Indian IPR laws are outdated and so it becomes crucial to ruminate on how to amend them on lines of changing technology, keeping in mind the international legal framework.

AI and Human Rights

 Artificial Intelligence systems can prove to be vital in upholding human rights. It can detect potential violations of human rights. However, there are chances that the real-life impact of AI can severely harm human interest if left unchecked. A plethora of issues like the use of deepfakes, job replacement, suppression of freedom of speech on social media, infringement of privacy, furthering gender and race bias over the internet etc have cropped up in the past few years. Hence, there is a need to decide on how to re-design our laws and regulatory framework to deal with these problems in an efficient manner.

Health Care Laws and AI

The past decade has seen many advances in the field of health care due to the use of AI. It has increased the efficiency of surgeons with the use of robots, reduced the cost, and provides better treatment and aftercare. But there are potential legal and policy issues like lack of transparency, unauthorized use of data, bias, medical malpractice, errors in diagnosis etc. which requires evaluation by lawmakers and scholars.

 Artificial Intelligence and International Law

AI tools are being extensively used by states in governance and enforcement of International Law. There is immense potential for AI to be used in the automation of legal services, legal personality, military and weapon systems, cyber defense, treaties, delegation, asylum etc. Therefore, the is an urgent need to explore the substantive areas of International law that will intersect with machine learning.

AI and Criminal Justice System

 AI has started metamorphosing the criminal justice system by reducing pendency in courts, increasing accessibility of justice, preventing crime, and modernizing the policing ecosystem. Nonetheless, there is a need to address specific points like the criminal liability of AI, predictive justice, unauthorized surveillance, bias and discrimination.

Cyber security laws and AI

The cyber security industry is progressing to keep up with the frequent and sophisticated threats from hackers and AI has an important role in maintaining its agility. Security professionals can now detect vulnerabilities, predict threats, and recognize the origin of the attack and malicious patterns in network traffic. However, the same AI has been used by hackers to steal proprietary data, and launch attacks. Hence, there is a need to analyze and evaluate the contemporary legal system and recommend measures for improvement.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

• Long and short articles must be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 250 words.
• There can be a maximum of one co-author in one submission.
• All manuscripts must be submitted in English language only.
• The research paper must be the original and unpublished work of the author(s).
• Plagiarism above 10 % shall attract immediate disqualification.
• The manuscript must be typewritten. The font should be Times New Roman, font size 12, line spacing 1.5, and justified alignment (except the title and ‘abstract’ caption which should be centrally aligned). All pages shall be numbered.
• All entries should be submitted electronically in .doc or .docx format.
• All manuscripts must be accompanied by:
• A cover letter with the name(s) of the author(s), designation, institution/affiliation, the title of the manuscript and contact information (correspondence address, email id, phone number etc.).
• A declaration that the manuscript submitted is a piece of original and bonafide research work and has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
• No biographical information or references, including the name(s) of the author(s), affiliation(s) and acknowledgements should be included in the text of the manuscript, the name or document properties.
• Authors are required to inform the Editorial Board if they have submitted their manuscript to another law journal and if they have received an acceptance for publication.
• All citations shall be placed in footnotes. ILI Rules of Footnoting must be adhered to.
• The footnotes must be typewritten in the font Times New Roman, font size 10, line spacing 1.0 and justified alignment.
