About Job Opportunity

The National Law University, Delhi through Project 39A is seeking to engage, on a contractual basis, an Associate (Litigation) at its campus in Dwarka, New Delhi. The contract will be for 1 year initially and can be extended on an annual basis at the discretion of the University. The Associate will be responsible for working on cases being handled by Project 39A, primarily concerning prisoners sentenced to death.

  • Draft criminal appeals, review petitions, writ petitions, applications, rejoinders, mercy petitions and other legal documents.
  • Brief and assist senior advocates and advocates on record.
  • Devise legal strategy and arguments for cases handled by Project 39A and carry out related research.
  • Visit prisons across India to conduct detailed interviews with prisoners sentenced to death, their families as part of developing legal strategy in particular cases.
  • Regularly communicate with prison authorities to obtain case specific information and documents.
  • Present the work of Project 39A at appropriate fora.
  • Contribute to the research and strategic efforts at Project 39A as and when required.
  • Organise training workshops and conferences.
  • Any other work that may be necessary to further the aims of Project 39A

Qualifications

  • Graduate with an LLB degree and enrolment with any State Bar Council.
  • Those with full-time criminal litigation experience of two years or more at the appellate stage will be given preference.
  • Ability to read/ write/ speak different Indian languages will be an advantage but is not mandatory.
  • This is a full-time position based in Delhi

The compensation will be commensurate with experience.

About CCL

CCL is a multidisciplinary research centre engaged in socio-legal and policy research, law reforms, system reforms, and advocacy with the state and central governments to ensure accountability for the rights of the child.

The objectives of the Centre are to enable children to be treated as rights holders; to help institutionalize the human rights-based approach into policy, law and practice on children, and to build the capacity of state and civil society for the more effective realization of child rights.

About the Internship Programme

Through its internship programme, the centre aims at inculcating an understanding of child rights through a rights perspective. Interning at CCL provides students with an opportunity to access its library.

Interns are expected to be professional in their conduct and are to abide by the rules and principles of conduct laid down by NLSIU.

Time period of Internship

The University of Calcutta’s Department of Law, which was founded in 1909, is one of the oldest legal institutions in South East Asia. The Department’s century-long history offers an enviable roster of renowned figures, including jurists, legal luminaries, Presidents, and politicians, many of whom have played pivotal roles in determining the country’s course.

The MAGAZINE is published by the Department’s Magazine Committee, which is made up of students from the University of Calcutta’s Department of Law. “The Muses” is the official online bi-annual publication of the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, produced and edited by students, which chronicles all activities under the umbrella of the school and presents a picture of the institute’s and students’ yearly endeavours. THEME

Author(s) are free to write on any topic related to legal, socio-legal and contemporary issues. The papers will be scored based on originality of analysis, depth of research, style of writing and communication of argument. The decision of the evaluators will be final and binding. 

Word limit

  1. Research Paper: 2000- 10000 words (excluding footnotes)
  2. Articles: 1500-2000 words (excluding footnotes)
  3. Case comment: 1500 words (excluding footnotes)
  4. Book review: 1500 words (excluding footnotes)

Format

The articles must be in Times New Roman, Font size 12, 1.5 line spacing, on an A4 sheet with 1″ margin on all sides, to be sent in .doc/docx format. 19th or 20th Bluebook edition style of the citation must be strictly adhered to while submitting the paper.

Aim & Purpose

SURANA & SURANA & SCHOOL OF LAW, RAFFLES UNIVERSITY NATIONAL LABOUR LAW MOOT COURT has been conceived with the aim of creating opportunities for learning the development of jurisprudence on emerging trends in Labour Law besides developing cutting edge skills in research, writing and advocacy.

Venue and Date

The 4th SURANA & SURANA & SCHOOL OF LAW, RAFFLES UNIVERSITY NATIONAL LABOUR LAW MOOT COURT 2021 shall be held virtually from 26 – 28 November 2021.

The competition shall be in the English language.

Eligibility

The competition is open for students who are studying LLB three year or five-year course during the current academic year interested in Employment Law and who belong to institutions that have been invited.

  • There shall be 2 speakers and 1 researcher designated for each team. The researcher shall be allowed to argue with prior permission of the court and National Administrator in case of illness of the designated speakers.
  • Each team will be provided a team code during orientation. Teams should not disclose the identity of their institution; such disclosure shall invite penalties including disqualification. The decision for the same shall be at the discretion of the National Administrator.

REGISTRATION

  • Online registrations are open from 6 th October 2021. The teams must register online by 30th October 2021. Teams will have to register online at www.moot.in Only 40 teams will be registered to participate in the competition on firstcome-first serve basis
  • No temporary registration requests will be entertained. Kindly refrain from sending such requests to Surana & Surana or SOL, Raffles University.
  • Participants will receive an automated system generated acknowledgement on successful submission of registration. Participants will receive an approval as acceptance of their request for participation latest by 2nd November 2021 or earlier.

Registration Process

  • Option 1 – The Registration form cum Approval letter as provided in the rules duly signed & sealed by your university / college / moot society.
  • Option 2 – Upload both (i) & (ii) together as a single PDF- (i) The Registration form cum Approval letter (without seal & signature) as provided in the rules duly filled along with; (ii)Scanned copy of authorisation letter with sign and seal from your university/ college / moot society or
  • An email communication from the official id (to be filled as notification email id during online registration process) of the institution, from your university / college / moot society to complete the registration process.
  • Note:
    • Signatories on the registration form should be any of the following: – Faculty-in-charge of MCA / MCS / MCC, Registrar, Dean, Principal, Director, Chancellor or Vice-Chancellor
    • Registration without the scanned copy of the approval letter / an email communication from the college/institution/university or duly attested registration form will not be valid.
  • Soft copy of the registration and approval letter/ an email communication as a single PDF to be sent by email to: mcc@rafflesuniversity.edu.in marked as 4th SURANA & SURANA AND SCHOOL OF LAW, RAFFLES UNIVERSITY LABOUR LAW MOOT COURT COMPETITION REGISTRATION as subject of the mail latest by 4th November 2021. The provisional team code shall be allotted to the registered teams by Host University soon after receiving of registration particulars along with the registration fee
  • On receiving the provisional team code from moot committee/society of SOL, Raffles University you may proceed to pay the registration fees.
