Theme: Constitutionality of Cryptocurrency In India

Law and Technology have often shared a unique relationship. Not only does law seeks to govern various operational aspects in the usage of technology, it has also used technology for the purposes of its implementation. Technological advancements have often posed various challenges to law which the latter is frequently struggling with.

One such area in which this struggle has manifested itself is in the domain of cryptocurrency. The emergence of cryptocurrency as a concept can be attributed to increasing development of information and technology, posing numerous challenges in the field of data protection, constitutionality of technology and privacy, with a major impact on finances and governance. This often brings us to a pertinent question as to whether law regulates technology or technology operates the implementation of law.

The School of Law, Bennett University is conducting its Fourth National Moot Court Competition from February 11 to 13, 2022 which revolves around this theme of law and technology focusing on the constitutionality of cryptocurrency. About the Moot Competition

Taxation is often perceived as a vast & highly complicated subject requiring considerable expertise and many law graduates are seen to be reluctant in taking up taxation as their area of practice. Consequently, the practice of taxation is restricted to a limited set of advocates though taxation laws are one of the most extensively applicable laws in India. In order to develop the next generation of taxation practitioners, it is imperative that law students are given a practical legal platform and this Taxation Moot by School of Excellence in Law, Chennai aims to do just that.

Late Shri. K.R. Ramamani was a legal giant in the field of taxation and was well known throughout India, especially in the south, for his legal acumen and expertise in the field of taxation. He was sought after by people from all walks of life for his expertise and was often referred to as ā€œPalkhivala of the Southā€. He led the prestigious Subbaraya Aiyar, Padmanabhan & Ramamani (S.A.P.R) Advocates (http://saprlaw.com) firm to great heights.

His commitment towards the legal profession, in-depth understanding of the law and his interest in teaching the future generation despite his busy schedule made him a lawyer par excellence. There can be no better way of remembering the memory of perhaps one of the most eminent taxation lawyers in India than by conducting a National Tax Moot Court Competition in his name.

So, in a fitting tribute to Late Shri. K.R. Ramamani, the School of Excellence in Law, Chennai in association with S.A.P.R. Advocates started a National level Taxation Moot Court Competition back in 2010 with an aim of providing the participants a high-quality moot experience focused on taxation. They are now organizing the 12th edition of the K.R.Ramamani Taxation Moot Court Competition & 12th V.S. Sundaram Research Paper Competition, 2022 (http://www.krrtaxmoot.com).

The Competition is set to take place in a hybrid form. Virtually through the video conferencing application ā€œGoogle Meetā€ā„¢ on 24th-27th February 2022.

About the Organizer

Delhi Metropolitan Education is a premier Educational Institute affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi.

About the Competition

The moot court proposition covers areas like Sexual Harassment at Workplace, Human Rights, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Corporate Governance and other global concerns. Violence against women remains devastatingly pervasive and starts alarmingly young. Prominent news headlines grab our attention towards sexual harassment at the workplace.

New data from WHO and partners manifests that across their lifetime, 1 in 3 women, around 736 million, are subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence from a non-partner ā€“ a number that has remained largely unchanged over the past decade. As of 2019, there are approx 19.45% working women in India out of the total female population which is estimated around 48% of the total population.

The rate of crime in the workplace against women has been increasing rapidly, not just in our country and also around the globe.

In a society where violence against women is posed just to show the patriarchal value operating in society, these values of men pose the greatest challenge in curbing sexual harassment. No female worker is safe and the sense of security is lacking in them.

Sexual harassment is rooted in cultural practices and is exacerbated by power relations at the workplace. Unless there is enough emphasis on sensitization at the workplace, legal changes are hardly likely to be successful. Workplaces need to frame their own comprehensive policies on how they will deal with sexual harassment. Instead of cobbling together committees at the courtā€™s intervention, a system and a route of redress should already be in place.

As a leading institution of this country, DME endeavours to provide budding lawyers with the best possible exposure in terms of practical experience, and they believe that by organising such academic events, they strive to achieve that aim.

This event incites to provide a platform to the students and faculty of law to sharpen their minds and showcase their legal knowledge.
