ELIGIBILITY

  • The essay writing competition should be on the topic “Should we all be Feminists? “
  • Maximum word limit – 1500 words.

THEME

Theme – I: Regimes of Control: Implications for National and International Regulations The first theme will be focusing on the historical development of the recognition of intellectual property and the development of legal regimes through various international treaties and conventions related to the protection of intellectual property rights and their consequences on the development of domestic legislations. The international conventions to protect intellectual property rights include Paris Convention, the Berne Convention, International Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations (Rome Convention), and the Treaty on Intellectual Property in Respect of Integrated Circuits (IPIC Treaty).

Theme – II: Intellectual Property Rights: The Indian Experience The second theme will focus on the various Indian legislations related to the protection of intellectual property rights and its impact on the Indian economy and society at large. The theme will focus on developments of IP regimes in India through various statutes like the Patents Act, 1970, the Trademarks Act, 1999, the Copyright Act, 1957, the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration And Protection) Act, 1999, the Designs Act, 2000 and the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 but not limited to the mere analysis of statutes but will also include different issues arising in relation to these and the judicial pronouncements thereupon. Some of the issues to be discussed are regarding IP laws in cyberspace, analyzing dimensions of related legislations, patenting of traditional knowledge bases, recognition of plant varieties and their medicinal properties, and international conflicts in operation of IP laws.

REGISTRATION DETAILS

  • Interested candidates may register for the competition through the link provided at the end of the post.
  • Upon registration, participants will receive detailed rules of procedure for the Quiz including instructions for preliminary and final rounds, team codes, marking scheme, duration, scoring, and other relevant details.
  • Structure of the Competition
    • Round 1 (preliminary: QUIZ): In round one there will be multiple choice questions in Slido.com form. The form will consist of 40-45 MCQs, each question will carry 1 mark. Each question will have a timer and the participants will have to answer the question within the time given (depending upon the question).
    • Round 2 (Quarter/Semi-finals) In round 2 which is same as the round 1, but in round 2 the participants will be given 25-30 MCQ. (Questions will be of Intermediate level)
    • Round 3 (finale): Here the participants will be on Microsoft teams and will be asked questions by the quizmaster. The level of questions will be higher and the students will also be asked subjective questions. Approximately 5-6 questions per participant.
