About the Project

Project 39A (hereinafter ‘P39A’) draws inspiration from Article 39-A in the Indian Constitution on equal justice and signals broadening their work on India’s criminal justice system.

They undertake litigation, research and outreach relating to forensics, torture, legal aid, forensic psychiatry and death penalty (for more information on P39A, visit www.project39a.com).

About the Project 39A Internship

The National Law University, Delhi, through Project 39A, is seeking to remotely engage, on a contractual basis, interns for managing the written communications in Marathi, Panjabi, Gujarati, and Malayalam, with prisoners represented by Project 39A, primarily those sentenced to death.

The contract will be for one year initially and can be extended on an annual basis at the discretion of the University. 

Area of Work

  • The litigation team at Project 39A provides pro bono legal representation to prisoners on death row. For effective legal representation, it is a key to regularly communicate with the clients.
  • The litigation team at Project 39A also believes in keeping prisoners updated about their case’s progress and involves family members in the preparation of the case.
  • The team also engages with the prisoners in a manner that could assist them in making their prison life more productive.

For all these reasons, the team regularly exchanges letters with the clients in the regional languages they understand and shares reading materials of their interest.

Responsibilities of the Interns

  1. The interns will study basic case materials and prior correspondence with the respective prisoners and their families. Under the supervision of Project 39A litigation and mitigation associates, interns will regularly draft personalized letters to prisoners in their respective languages. 
  2. To accompany the letters, the interns will identify suitable reading material in the respective regional language for each client.
  3. The interns will translate the letters received from the clients into the English language.
  4. Any other tasks that may be necessary to further the aims of Project 39A’s communication program with prisoners or any other work.

Eligibility for Project 39A Internship

  • Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Students of law, humanities, social sciences, social work, management, or media enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s programs.
  • Reading and writing proficiency in at least one of the following regional languages, along with English:
    • Marathi
    • Panjabi
    • Gujarati
    • Malayalam

Duration & Place of Internship

Minimum 1-year internship period. The internship can be undertaken remotely.

Internship Stipend

A small stipend will be provided which may vary subject to case allocation per language. Payment will be released on a six-monthly basis.

Description of position

Nyaaya is looking for a Legal Research and Content Manager for its Content team to work out of its Bangalore office.

The team is looking for someone passionate about changing how citizens interact with the law.

Responsibilities

Your primary task will be to manage projects to ensure fast-paced content development while ensuring the quality and accuracy of the final content.

You will be responsible for:

  • Ownership of Nyaaya’s Hindi content creation and dissemination across various platforms, including the Nyaaya website and social media channels.
  • Creating audio and video content in English and Hindi with actionable content.
  • Generating a quarterly content plan based on prioritization of content products and outreach initiatives for English and Hindi content. This will involve extensive research on each of the topics and issues identified, undertaking a comprehensive literature review, and case law research on decisions of the Supreme Court of India and Indian High Courts, Subordinate Courts, and Tribunals.
  • Working with researchers, interns, and volunteers to conceptualize and oversee the creation of content.
  • Working with partner organizations to build and share content. Ability to lead discussions with grassroots organizations and build networks for Nyaaya.
  • Monitoring and managing the Ask Nyaaya Legal Helpline.
  • Backend WordPress content management work with the support of the technical team.

Requirements

Essential 

  • A minimum of a graduate degree in law and 3+ years of work experience.
  • Fluency (particularly, in writing) in English and Hindi is mandatory for this role.  
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of a project and manage end-to-end execution.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team.
  • A demonstrable interest in new legal ventures, particularly with respect to citizen engagement.

Desirable

  • Previous experience with web technologies and audio/video/design softwares will be considered a plus.

The Career Point University has been established under the Government of Himachal Pradesh. Located in the rural area of Himachal Pradesh, the university has five schools and fourteen departments.

School of Legal Studies and Governance has been started in 2014 after the approval of Bar Council of India. Presently the School is offering B.A.LLB i.e. five year integrated law course and post- graduation in law i.e. LL.M. and Ph. D in law.

About the competition

School of Legal Studies& Governance is inviting law colleges and universities to participate in their 3rd
National Moot Court Competition, 2022. The two-day event is being organised May 6-7, 2022.

This competition aims at benefitting the young law students by developing their drafting and advocacy skills.

Registration Details

  • All the institutions participating in the moot court competition have to ensure their participation by fulfilling the online registration form.
  • A Single team (consisting of two mooters and one researcher) has to make a combined registration by clicking on the link.
  • Registration will be regarded as confirmed only on the payment of the registration fee, please find the payment details in the brochure given at the end of this post.

  • The participation fee is payable by the participant through Online Payment (NEFT/IMPS).
  • Kindly keep the copy of transaction safely and mention the same in registration form.
  • The fee once paid is non-refundable.

Submission of Memorials

  • Soft copy of all memorials for the moot court competition must be mailed at lawdept@cpuh.edu.in before May 3, 2022.
  • One hard copy has to be submitted through post which must reach by May 5, 2022.
  • The memorial must be prepared as per the guidelines attached with brochure. Deviation from guidelines will result into deduction of marks.

Awards and Prizes

The National Moot Court Competition will acknowledge the following with award and prizes:

  • Winning team of final round will be awarded with trophy and a cash prize of INR 10,000 /-
  • Runner -up team of final round will be awarded with trophy and a cash prize of INR 5,000 /-
  • Best mooter will be awarded with trophy and a certificate
  • Best researcher will be awarded with trophy and a certificate
  • Best memorial team will be awarded with trophies and certificates.
  • All the participants will be awarded with the certificate of participation.

Beside this, Lawctopus Law School (knowledge & media partner of the moot court competition) will give following awards :

  • 100 per cent waiver in one of their course for the members of the Winning team (3 coupons).
  • 50 per cent waiver in one course for the members of the runner up team (3 coupons).

Accommodation and Food

  • Accommodations and food will be provided by the organizers during the days of competition to the participating team members.
  • Accommodations will be provided on share basis in university hostel. There shall be separate accommodation for boys and girls.
