Open position:

The legal team is in search of a Legal Intern with a keen interest in transactional laws, technology and privacy laws and IP laws to assist in handling a wide range of legal and compliance issues that arise from business operations, sales and marketing along with employee matters.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

The Legal Intern will assist the legal team in:

• Drafting and reviewing a variety of commercial agreements.

Required qualifications:

Is in either:

1. 4^th and 5^th year of the 5-year integrated legal course; or
2. 3^rd year in the 3 year LLB program, and has strong interest in transaction laws, commercial contracting, technology laws and intellectual property law. Prior corporate internship experience is preferred.
3. Is adaptable, flexible, pragmatic and solution oriented. Must be updated with developments in law, specifically in the field of technology privacy and IP laws. Must be willing to work in the digital and information age and should be prepared to use technology tools. Has a personal laptop for carrying out internship assignments and must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, if required.
4. Is articulate, with great communication drafting skills and is highly effective in English.

Location and Duration

About the WTO Internship Programme

Applications are invited on a rolling basis for the World Trade Organization (WTO) Internship Programme for nationals of a WTO member state or a country or customs territory.

The WTO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for post-graduate students from WTO member and observer countries to gain valuable experience from working at the WTO.

​General Assignments

Assignments given to interns are intended to enhance the individual’s understanding of the WTO and of trade policy more generally. However, internships include opportunities in other specialist areas, such as finance, human resources, language services, IT and communications.

The division to which the intern is assigned determines the precise nature of the work to be undertaken. Many interns work in the following areas:

Internship Duration

Up to a maximum of 6 (six) months.

Stipend

• Interns receive a daily allowance of CHF 60 [4,902.18 Indian Rupee] (including weekends and official holidays falling within the selected period).
• Travel expenses to and from Geneva cannot be paid by the WTO, and such travel is not covered by the Organization’s insurance.
• Medical health insurance coverage is mandatory in Switzerland, and interns are responsible for organizing their own health insurance prior to commencing their internship at the WTO.

Qualifications

A candidate must:

• be a national of a WTO member state or a country or customs territory engaged in accession negotiations
• have completed his/her undergraduate studies in a relevant discipline and have completed at least one year of his/her postgraduate studies
• be at least 21 years old and a maximum of 30 years old during the internship.

Procedure to Apply

Candidates should submit their applications through the WTO external jobs platform and only candidates selected for an interview are contacted. Role and Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of IPR Chair Professor, DPIIT and Dean Research, GNLU the incumbent shall perform the following roles and responsibilities;

(i) Conduct Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) research in relevant areas of law under the guidance of IPR Chair
Professor – DPIIT;
(ii) Provide research assistance to Chair Professor – DPIIT whenever required;
(iii) Develop, plan, execute, monitor and report Intellectual Property Rights research in collaboration with external

and abroad;
(iv) Provide Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) research counseling and scholastic assistance to IPR Chair
Professor – DPIIT;
(v) Participate in overall planning and development of research, training and extension programs of DPIIT IPR
Chair activities in the University;
(vi) Perform any other duties including administrative, coordination, etc. as required to achieve the aims and
objectives of the DPIIT – IPR Chair under the guidanceof Chair Professor;
(vii) Engage in diverse research activities including field work, data collection, data analysis, report drafting, etc.

Essential Criteria:

(i) LL.M. in IPR Specialization with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or Ph. D in Law preferably in IPR Specialization from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an
accredited Foreign University.
(ii) Good knowledge of latest national and international research trends and developments in IPR;
(iii) Ability to conceptualize and organize international training workshops and brainstorming online/ on-site discussions apart from Teaching/ Research;
(iv) Fluency in English language.

Highly desirable:

(i) Experience in teaching/ research in premier Law Universities/ Colleges in relevant area;
(ii) Excellent inter-personal and teambuilding skills;
(iii)Ability to innovate and to improve research, training and extension activities or services and to pursue interesting new ideas and new methods;
(iv) National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/ SET;

Important Notes:

 The initial appointment is for a period of 364 days, out of which first three months are to be
considered as probation. Further, upon satisfactory performance, the tenure may be extended for an
additional period of one year upto maximum three years depending upon the needs and interest
determined by the IPR Chair Professor, DPIIT and GNLU.
 Selected Candidate having Ph.D Degree will be paid a remuneration of ₹ 50,000/- per month and
LL.M Degree in IPR will be paid a remuneration of ₹ 40,000/- per month.
 The position shall be considered a non-regular employee of the GNLU or the DPIIT for all legal
and practical purposes.

Job Role:

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Director of Legal & Compliance, South Asia, acts as the primary legal counsel and compliance lead to the organisation’s South Asia group. In that capacity they provide strategic legal and compliance advice and guidance to the management team and others on complex, high-risk legal matters. They also have supervisory responsibility for the local Compliance team. They are expected to provide proactive, strategic legal input in respect of legal, managerial and organizational issues and work closely with the General Counsel, leadership team, external law firms, and employees at all levels. They are an active member of the L&BA Senior Team, which assists in formulating the function’s strategy, articulating its culture and mission and developing and managing its talent. Some travel to support these responsibilities may be required.

Principal accountabilities:

• Act as the primary legal counsel and compliance lead to the organisation’s South Asia group. In that capacity they provide strategic legal advice and guidance to the management team and others on complex, high-risk legal and compliance matters, taking a commercial, pragmatic and responsive approach.
• Effective and efficient management of legal advisory services and of legal and compliance risks primarily for South Asia, and additionally globally as required.
• Drafting and / or reviewing a wide range of sale and purchase agreements, corporate documents, editorial agreements and licences, technology agreements, terms and conditions, employment, property and finance agreements. Dealing with trademarks, copyright, data protection, competition law, business registration and company secretarial requirements. Managing disputes and litigation. Providing compliance and regulatory support.
• Maintaining up to date knowledge of legal developments in these fields.
• Be an active member of the Legal & Business Affairs (L&BA) Senior Team, which assists in formulating the function’s strategy, articulating its culture and mission and developing and managing its talent. This also includes providing oversight, direction and strategic guidance and advice to L&BA team.
• Working with appropriate colleagues in L&BA, ensuring the availability of legally accurate and appropriate precedents and template documents.
• Providing an appropriate mixture of commercially focused pro-active and reactive advice, guidance and training in each of these areas to business stakeholders.
• Building and maintaining appropriate relationships with relevant external counsel, both in India and in other key overseas markets where requested to do so.

Supporting the Group Compliance Officer with ABC and other compliance issues (including third party due diligence). Being a point of contact in India to assist with providing feedback on the ABC programme, attending workshops related to the policies, procedures and guidelines document as they are developed, and to assist in the roll out of the compliance programme where requested by the Compliance team. Responsible for approving any gifts or hospitality offered to or accepted from employees in their CUPA Office escalating to the Compliance team where appropriate. Responsible for approving any donations requests by employees in their CUPA Hub Office, escalating to the Compliance team where appropriate. Port-of-call for any concerns staff may wish to express about ABC issues or the ABC programme within their area of the business, another port-of-call being the Whistleblowing Hotline; may be asked to investigate claims as appropriate. Assisting with providing feedback on the ABC programme, attending training and workshops related to the policies, procedures and guidelines documents as they are developed, and to assist in the roll-out of the compliance programme where requested. Main sponsor for the risk assessment process related to ABC risks for India. Assisting in the roll out of the Compliance Due Diligence Procedures to ensure they are in fact embedded in India by fully understanding and engaging with the procedures in their day to day role. Assisting with any periodic ABC reviews for India as appropriate.

Skills and experience:

• Qualified lawyer with significant experience in advising on commercial, corporate and contentious issues, ideally in a media or digital business and with some knowledge of intellectual property.
