About the Organisers

The Asian Criminological Society (ACS) was established in 2009 in Macau with the following objectives:

  • to promote the study of criminology and criminal justice across Asia;
  • to enhance co-operation in the fields of criminology and criminal justice by scholars and practitioners;
  • to encourage communication between criminologists and criminal justice practitioners in Asia and the world through publications and conferences; and finally,
  • to foster training and research in criminology and criminal justice in institutions of learning, and in criminal justice agencies.

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is a statutory University established by the Government of Gujarat under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003. The University is recognized by the Bar Council of India and the UGC.

About the Conference

The epoch-making changes in various technologies, particularly information and communication technologies (ICT) have left its indelible mark on almost all facets of society and criminal justice systems are no exception. The emerging discourse on the interface of cutting-edge ICT and the existing criminal justice systems range from essentialism to situations where technology adds substantial value to the criminal justice processes – from supporting to replacing human discretion in the justice dispensation chain.

We no longer refer to technology per se; instead, we have come to recognize a combination of disruptive technologies. The first is Artificial Intelligence (AI) which encompasses machine learning and intelligent cybernetics.

Second is the Internet of Things (IoT) that has enabled establishing the digital identity of not just all living beings on the planet apart from various inanimate participants in digital processes.

The third is blockchain technology which has a rich collection of applications that are already disrupting evidence systems, particularly in accounting and logistics by introducing new concepts of authenticity, using crypto primitives.

Alongside disruptive technologies, researchers are now looking at two waves of disruption to legal systems that are triggered by the need to relate the existing criminal justice systems to the compelling changes ushered in by disruptive technologies. Brownsword’s seminal work on this subject clearly indicates the power of these two disruptive waves hitting the coast of the existing legal system.

The first wave drives us to examine if the existing laws have lost their fitness-for-purpose in the context of the inroads made by technologies in general; not just ICT. The second wave is more about the ways in which technologies can be harnessed by the criminal justice dispensation system to add value, resulting in a better dispensation of justice.

This conference will address two key questions emanating from the interface of laws and technology, in the context of harnessing technology to improve the criminal justice process. First will be areas where the existing laws are seen as being out-of-sync with contemporary technologies and second will be areas where technology can be used to play a significant role in the criminal justice process; particularly in policing.

Who can Attend?

This conference is aimed at educators, researchers, academicians and practitioners in the area of Criminology, Victimology, Law, Sociology, Information Technology,  and allied sciences, from Criminal Justice Professionals, NGO practitioners, and from experts in the fields of cyber-crimes, information security and digital forensics.

About the Competition

DME Law School strives for bringing in a positive change in the status quo of society through innovative and practical ideas. The DME Moot Court Society, under the aegis of Faculty and Student conveners and the Executive Board, has organized a number of prestigious moots, including the DME National Moot Court Competitions (DME NMCC) from 2017 to 2021, all of these moots were one of their kind as the problem for the moot and the rules for the competition were drafted in a way which allowed the participants to use an innovative approach while mooting.

The DME MCS understands the need of the changing time and hence this year we have come up with an idea of bringing in an innovative approach to the Moot Court Competition and making it something more than just courtroom debating.

The DME MCS has been organizing various national and international events related to Intellectual Property Rights, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Cyber and Privacy Law, and other topics to provide a way for students to imbibe the practical principles of law, and this moot court is one of that way to develop a virtual model for law students to mix and match them with the intricacies and expediencies of law.

The vision of the DME International Moot Court Competition 2022

“There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing”. -Swami Vivekananda.

The moot court proposition covers areas like Sexual Harassment at Workplace, Human Rights, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Corporate Governance, and other global concerns. Violence against women remains devastatingly pervasive and starts alarmingly young. Prominent news headlines grab our attention towards sexual harassment at the workplace. New data from WHO and partners manifests that across their lifetime, 1 in 3 women, around 736 million, are subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence from a non-partner – a number that has remained largely unchanged over the past decade. As of 2019, there are approx 19.45% working women in India out of the total female population which is estimated around 48% of the total population. The rate of crime in the workplace against women has been increasing rapidly, not just in our country but also around the globe.

In a society where violence against women is posed just to show the patriarchal value operating in society, these values of men pose the greatest challenge in curbing sexual harassment. No female worker is safe and the sense of security is lacking in them. Sexual harassment is rooted in cultural practices and is exacerbated by power relations at the workplace. Unless there is enough emphasis on sensitization at the workplace, legal changes are hardly likely to be successful. Workplaces need to frame their own comprehensive policies on how they will deal with sexual harassment. Instead of cobbling together committees at the court’s intervention, a system and a route of redress should already be in place.

As a leading institution of this country, we endeavor to provide budding lawyers with the best possible exposure in terms of practical experience, and we believe that by organizing such academic events, we strive to achieve that aim. It gives us immense pleasure to extend our heartfelt invitation to your esteemed institution to participate and make this event a grand success. This event incites to provide a platform to the students and faculty of law to sharpen their minds and showcase their legal knowledge.

We expect your response and look forward to an opportunity to welcome your team to Delhi Metropolitan Education, Noida.

Sathe Foundation, set up by the Indian Law Society, organizes three events at ILS Law College, Pune. The three events are: a Memorial Lecture, a Conference, and a Moot Court Competition.

In keeping with the tradition, this year’s broad theme is “Climate Change”. The 16th National Moot Court Competition 2021-2022 aims at equipping the students with the skill of dealing with legal conflicts that arise before the courts owing to gaps and ambiguities in rules pertaining to legal education through an intersection of international and environmental law.

The effects of climate change are becoming deeply intertwined with the socio-economic fabric of our society, and it is imperative that international law develops to accommodate this new reality. Through this moot, ILS aims to equip the students with the understanding of the nuances of international law, climate law, and humanitarian law, particularly when it comes to dealing with conflicting interests of state and non-state actors as regards the welfare of the people.
