Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University is an institute for law in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Dr RMLNLU was established in the year 2005, and since then, has been providing undergraduate and post-graduate legal education.

About the Journal Committee

The Committee was constituted with the objective of promoting legal research and writing. Apart from conducting the RMLNLU International Legal Essay Writing Competition every year, the Committee annually publishes two peer-reviewed journals – the RMLNLU Law Review and the RMLNLU Journal on CMET (Communication, Media, Entertainment and Technology) Law.

Both these journals publish articles, essays, case notes/comments and book reviews from contributors all over the world. The RMLNLU Law Review also runs a blog that provides a platform for people in the field to express their opinions on contemporary legal issues.

About the Journal

The RMLNLU Journal on Communication, Media, Entertainment & Technology Law (hereinafter ‘the Journal’) is an annual, student-edited, peer-reviewed law journal published by the Journal Committee of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow.

Through this Journal, the Committee aims to foster the spirit of writing and set in motion a discourse among knowledgeable intellectuals from various fields of law.

The Journal Committee is pleased to announce the call for papers for The RMLNLU Journal on Communication, Media, Entertainment & Technology Law, Volume IX.

This is a theme-based journal and only accepts submissions pertaining to the same.

Call for Papers

The Journal accepts submissions from law students, academicians and legal professionals all over the country and abroad in the form of:

  • Articles: 5000-7000 words. (These are evaluations of specific contemporary issues and aim at conceptualizing the issues in a unique and unconventional manner. The assessment of contemporary issues shall be appreciated, though not mandatory).
  • Case notes/comments: 2000-3000 words. (These are assessments of the aim and legal impact of contemporary judgments and legislations).
  • Book Reviews: 2000-3000 words. (Entries submitted under this category may present innovative evaluations of present literature).
  • Essays: 4000-5000 words.

The submissions may be on any contemporary legal issue connected with media law and its allied fields of communications, entertainment and technology. The authors are expected to adhere to the prescribed word limit as indicated above.

Note: The prescribed word limits exclude Abstract, whose word limit has been prescribed in the guidelines that follow, and footnotes, wherein speaking footnotes must be avoided wherever possible.

Each of these entries shall be required to conform to the set of guidelines that follow.

Submission Guidelines

The formatting shall be as per the following:

  • Title: Bold, Underlined, Uppercase, Size 16, and Centre Aligned
  • Headings: Bold, Uppercase, Size 14, and left-aligned.
  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font size: 12 pts.
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Margin: 1” from all sides
  • Alignment: Justified

Footnotes

  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font size: 10 pts.
  • Line Spacing: 1.0
  • Alignment: Left

All the sources in the footnotes must be properly cited strictly in accordance with the latest OSCOLA (4th edition) format. No endnotes or speaking footnotes (descriptive footnotes) are allowed.

General Instructions

  1. The submission should be original and non-plagiarised. They should exhibit originality in thought, critical evaluation, and careful interpretations. Submission of a paper shall be taken to imply that it is an unpublished work and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
  2. Co-Authorship to a maximum of two members is allowed. However, co-authorship is not allowed in “book reviews” and “case notes/comments”.
  3. Acknowledgement and Declaration by the author(s) need not be included.
  4. The contents should in no way, directly or indirectly, indicate or reference the identity of the author(s).
  5. The author(s) must send in the cover letter in the body of the mail, which must contain all the relevant biographical details (Name of the author(s), their degrees, Designation, Name of College/University/Institution, Postal Address(es), Phone Number and email ID). A separate attachment as a cover letter will not be entertained.
  6. The authors must attach only one manuscript to the mail which must include the abstract and the main content of the paper. The authors must refrain from adding any other information (such as personal information, declarations) in this manuscript. 
  7.  The file name of the attached manuscript must be the name(s) of the author(s).
  8. The subject title for the mail must be ‘Article/Essay/Case Comment/Book Review for Volume IX’. 

Declarations

  1. Editors’ decisions shall be final and binding. They reserve the sole rights to the publication of the selected articles in addition to, inter alia, any edits/amends/reproduction.
  2. The contributions presented to and accepted for publication and the copyrights therein shall be the intellectual property of the Journal Committee, Dr. RMLNLU.

Please note, that only one submission per author or a team of co-authors is permissible. In case of more than one submission, only the one received first would be considered for review.

Submission Deadline and Review

There shall be a rigorous review process comprising 3 stages and spanning 45 days. The authors shall be intimated about the status of their manuscript at every stage.

About the International Law Summit

The 12th Government Law College International Law Summit is being organised by the Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai. The Summit is scheduled to take place from 25th
March – 27th March, 2022.

The Summit, aside from the Keynote Address, Panel Discussion, and Call for Papers, comprises the unique Judgment Deliberation Competition, which was conceived within the portals of our institution.

The Theme for the 12th Government Law College International Law Summit is ‘International Intellectual Property Rights’. The Summit seeks to stimulate the minds of the attendees through thought-provoking interactions with experts and doyens of the legal fraternity.

SPIL welcomes all interested persons, spanning the spectrum of students across the globe, professors and members of the legal fraternity to the Summit. The wide-ranging lectures, panel discussions, and workshops will undoubtedly prove to be an enriching experience.

Call for Papers for International Law Journal

All members of the legal fraternity, practitioners, professors and students are invited to present original academic papers for the International Law Journal, Vol. II, 2022.

Theme

Submissions are invited on any topic of contemporary relevance in the area of International Law. Submissions may be in the form of following categories:

Submission Categories

  • Articles: Papers that comprehensively analyze a theme and engage with all the existing literature in it. An article should be in between 6000 and 10000 words exclusive of footnotes.
  • Essays: Papers that concisely analyze specific contemporary issues in the field of international law. It should be between 4000 and 6000 words exclusive of footnotes.
  • Case Notes and/or Legislative Commentaries: Notes and commentaries must discuss or critique a recent judgement, landmark case or any recent legislation or bill before Parliament or State legislature. It should be between 1500 and 3000 words exclusive of footnotes.

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstract Word Limit: 200 words
  • Co-authorship: Allowed upto 2 authors
  • Method of citation: The ILJ follows ‘Harvard Bluebook 20th Edition’ style of referencing.
    • The body of the manuscript should be in Times New Roman size 12 with 1.5 line spacing and justified Alignment.
    • The footnotes should be in Times New Roman size 10 with single line spacing

Original submissions are invited from undergraduate and post graduate students, industry practitioners, academicians and research scholars.

About the Judgment Deliberation Competition (JDC)

The JDC essentially expects participants to arrive at a judgment, after analysis of facts and arguments presented from both sides. The competition has been inspired by the procedures of various judicial bodies and tribunals that span the spectrum of international law.

Bringing a fresh approach to problem analysis and judgment making, it requires participants to arrive at a judgment that is infallible in law, rational in thought, and innovative in its essence.

Eligibility

Students of any university on a full-time or part-time basis in either a 3-year LLB or a 5-year integrated BA/BBA/BSC/BCOM/BLS LLB courses at the time of the competition are eligible to participate in the Competition.

Team Composition and Selection

A Team shall be composed of two (2) members: Judge and Judicial Clerk.

These roles are interchangeable only upon the commencement of a new round.

Please note that the students can register individually for the competition, they do not need to
register through their college.

Registration Procedure

Registering Names of Team Members: Each team must fill the Registration Form (Click here for the registration form) by February 27, 2022.

Team members’ names must be clearly typed in the form, giving special attention to the spelling of each Team member’s name. Participation Certificates will be awarded to Teams with names spelt in the manner thus provided.

Fee Payment

The registration fee per team for Judgment Deliberation Competition 2022 for all the invited National Universities/Colleges is INR 1000 and Overseas Universities/Colleges is US$ 25.

The same shall be submitted through the required payment method which will be provided through mail once the registration is confirmed by the organising committee.

Deadline for the payment of Registration fee: All payments must be made within 48 hours of Confirmation of Registration by the committee.

Note: No refund shall be made on cancellation of registration.

How to Submit?

General Guidelines

  • The Comparative Constitutional Law and Administrative Law Journal [“Journal”] attempts to initiate and foster academic dialogue concerning the subject of Administrative Law and Constitutional Law keeping in mind a global perspective. Please note that all submissions must be topical to the scope and theme of the Journal.
  • All submitted manuscripts shall be original. Any form of plagiarism would lead to immediate rejection of the submission.
  • Submission of solicited manuscripts, on invitation from the Journal’s editors, guarantees publication of the same. However, if such solicited manuscript does not meet the Journal’s standards of quality scholarship, final discretion to publish the solicited manuscript vests with the Editorial Board [“Board”]
  • The author(s) must inform the Board if the manuscript has also been submitted to another journal, website or forum. The Board must be notified immediately if an offer for publication from another journal, website or forum is accepted by the author(s).
  • After the first publication of a manuscript with the Journal, permission for any subsequent publication in another forum must be obtained from the Board.

Specific Guidelines

Author(s)

  • Each manuscript may have up to two authors, however co-authorship is not permitted for Book Reviews and Case Comments
  • In case of joint authorship, the author from whom a submission is received by the Board, shall intimate the Board of the name, credentials and contact details of the intended co-author.

Citations and References

  • All relevant sources shall be duly acknowledged as footnotes.
  • Speaking footnotes are allowed
  • The text and citation styles shall conform to the rules prescribed in The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (20th edition).

Style Guidelines

The Journal accepts submissions in the following categories:

  • Articles- Not exceeding 10,00 (Ten Thousand) words. Articles must deal with issues of interest and relevance and must demonstrate a high level of analysis. Articles of a purely descriptive nature are not preferred.
  • Notes- Not exceeding 4000 (Four Thousand) words. Notes should cover a recent development or should be issue-specific. A Note functions as a more condensed and succinct Article.
  • Case Comment- Not exceeding 3000 (Three Thousand) words. Case comments entail a critical analysis of recent case laws and policy developments.
  • Book Reviews- Not Exceeding 2000 (Two Thousand) words. Book Reviews entail providing critical analysis and review of any book that deals with the subject matter of the Journal.

Note: All manuscripts must necessarily be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 350 words.

Word Count: Please note that the word limit would be considered excluding the footnotes, except when speaking footnotes are used. The journal may accept shorter or longer submissions depending on the quality of the submission.

Formatting Specifications

  • The manuscript must be word-processed in Garamond.
  • The main body text should be in font size 12 and footnotes in size 10.
  • There should be line spacing of 1.5 between paragraphs and headings in the main body and a line space of 1.0 in footnotes.
  • Verbatim quotes must be put in double quotes and italicised with a 0.5” indent.
  • The entire document, including footnotes, must be justified.

Language: The Journal shall follow British English.

Submission Procedure

  • The Author/s are required to email the manuscript to editorcalq@gmail.com.
  • The manuscript may be mailed in Microsoft Word (‘.doc’ or ‘.docx’) format.
  • The manuscript shall not contain any details of the author, and anonymity must be maintained.
  • The subject of the mail must clearly mention, ‘Submission_Volume 6.2 [Article/Note/Case Comment/Book Review]’.
  • The mail must be addressed to the Managing Editor, providing the name of the author/s with the name of the institution affiliated to and the contact details in the body of the mail.
  • A mail confirming the receipt of the manuscript and subsequently its acceptance for publication would be duly conveyed to the author/s through the email id used by the author/s for correspondence.
  • The last date for submission is 11:59 p.m. (IST) on February 15, 2022 (Tuesday).

Authors, upon submission, communicate their acceptance of the following conditions:

  • The work, upon publication, becomes the property of the Journal.

About The Courts and The Constitution Conference

The inaugural edition of the Courts and the Constitution Conference took place on 26-27 January 2019, with the theme “2018: Year in Review”. It was a first-of-its-kind initiative in India and discussed the major legal developments and landmark judgments of the year 2018 in light of their long-term impact on the governance and rights of the Republic.

The second edition of the conference, “The Republic at 70: Past, Present and Future Directions” was hosted on 25-26 January 2020. More than 25 legal luminaries participated in multiple panels on Developments in Equality Jurisprudence, Reforming Tribunals, Federalism and the Constitution, and Citizenship, Residency and the Constitution, as well as public guest lectures on capital punishment, among others.

The featured speakers in the past two editions included, inter alia, Arun Thiruvengadam, Sudhir Krishnaswamy, Arvind Narain, Chintan Chandrachud, Nizam Pasha, Suhrith Parthasarathy, Aparna Chandra, Anup Surendranath, Arundhati Katju, Alok Prasanna Kumar, Malavika Prasad, Harish Narsappa, Rohit De, Suchindran Bhaskaran, Ujwala Uppaluri, as well as N.R. Madhava Menon, M.P. Singh and Indira Jaisingh.

Both the editions were co-organized by the Editorial Team of the Law and Other Things Blog, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, and the School of Policy and Governance, Azim Premji University, Bangalore, and took place in-person at NALSAR.

The third edition will be hosted on 26-27 March 2022, in a hybrid model (in-person as well as limited online streaming) in light of the extraordinary circumstances created due to the pandemic.

“‘The Courts and the Constitution – 2020 & 2021 in Review’ is scheduled for March 26-27, 2022. This conference is being co-organised by the Editorial Team of the Law and Other Things Blog, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad and Azim Premji University, Bangalore. In addition to the invited speakers, proposals for presentations by students, researchers and professionals who are below 30 years of age are invited. The proposals must relate to the themes that will be covered as part of the conference agenda.

About the Call for Proposals

This year, along with invited speakers for the various panels, interested students and professionals in the legal and associated fields are invited to submit proposals for presenting their papers during the conference.

If accepted, the applicant will get a chance to present their paper/ideas as a part of the panel, and proposals shall also be developed into papers that will be published by the Blog. The proposals should pertain to either of the six themes of the panels.

Themes for the Panels

This year, LAOT is inviting submissions from authors on the themes of each panel. They are:

  1. The State of the Judiciary
  2. Public Health Crisis and the Constitution
  3. Emerging Voices – The Shamnad Basheer Memorial Roundtable
  4. Contemporary Issues in Indian Federalism 
  5. Environmentalism and Governance in South Asia
  6. Civil Liberties and Criminal Justice

Eligibility

Proposals are invited from students and professionals from the legal field as well as allied disciplines. Since the objective of this Call for Proposals is to make the conference more accessible to a younger demographic, those who are under the age of 30 years will be given priority.

Structure and Rewards

  • The authors of the best entry corresponding with each theme will be selected to participate in the respective panels (allowing for virtual or in-person participation). Our aim is to have at least one speaker in each panel identified through this route. The selected authors will get the opportunity to present their work alongside established scholars and practitioners.
  • Please note that the proposals will be closely scrutinized and that the selection process is likely to be quite competitive. The conference organizers reserve the right to not select any entries, if they do not meet a certain qualitative threshold.
  • The participants may adopt any suitable means for presenting their work, including audio-visual aids or a PowerPoint presentation. The selected participants will have at least 15 minutes to make their respective presentations.

Criteria for Selection

The proposals shall be evaluated on the following grounds:

  • framing of the research question/s,
  • the choice of research methodology (if appropriate/relevant for the topic that is discussed),
  • treatment of the research question/s in the literature,
  • the framing of the central argument and the quality of substantiation of the chosen issues,
  • originality of the ideas/arguments presented, and
  • relevance of the chosen topic, in respect of the existing scholarship related to Indian Constitutional Law and the Indian Legal System.

Participation Guidelines

  • Co-authorship of entries (maximum two) among individuals from the same or different institutions is allowed.
  • Multiple entries by the same author(s) are not allowed.
  • Entries should be original, unpublished, and non-plagiarised.

Submission Guidelines

  • Word Limit: The proposal must be 1000-1500 words in length, excluding footnotes.
  • Mode: Please fill the google form through the link given at the end of this post to apply. No submissions will be entertained made through any mode other than the google form.
  • Font and size for the essay: Times New Roman – 12
  • Font and size for footnotes: Times New Roman – 10
  • Paper Size: A4
  • Line spacing: 1.5
  • Margin: 1” from all sides
  • Alignment: Justified
  • Document Type: Word Document
  • Citation Style: Footnotes/Endnotes must be properly cited in a uniform style of your choice. Footnotes are preferred over endnotes.

Miscellaneous Rules

  • The copyright for all entries shall vest with the LAOT Committee who herewith reserve the right to modify, postpone or defer the selection indefinitely as and when exigencies of an unforeseen nature may arise.
  • Any attempt, direct or indirect, to contact the panel of judges will be met with the immediate disqualification of the relevant entry.
  • Any indication of the author’s name or university in the entry shall lead to immediate disqualification from the Competition. Details about the author may only be specified in the body of the mail and the name of the author must not be mentioned in the name or properties of the word document submitted.

Important Dates

  • Last date for submission of manuscript: February 25, 2022. Late entries will not be entertained.
  • Authors shall be intimated of the selection of their proposal by March 10, 2022

In this edition of MCIP 2.0, the main theme is “IP and DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES: LAW, POLICY and SOCIETY”. The Centre for Specialisation in Cyber Law Studies (CSCLS) is an in-house Centre established to research on different aspects of cyber law. The Centre intends to educate and spread awareness in Society by conducting various events and capsule courses.

The Objective of the Seminar

New risks and threats in cyberspace are real, making cyber security necessary. We, as individuals as well as societies, cannot go unprotected. Cyber security is not simply a clear-cut technical issue. It is a strategic, political, and social phenomenon with all the accompanying messy nuances. Therefore, cyber reality must be examined with scientific rigour by all disciplines, enabling an informed public debate.

It is both, morally essential and rationally effective for the responses to be formulated through a democratic process. The objective of the Seminar is to discuss and deliberate on this major issue and to understand aspects and dynamics of the same. A Book containing the selected Papers shall also be published.

The outcome of the Seminar would facilitate the organizers, participants and other stakeholders to make legislative and policy interventions to bring about positive social and legal transformation. This Seminar would also provide an excellent opportunity for the participants to put across their own views and exchange ideas in order to have a holistic understanding of the subject matter.

Call for Papers

Well-researched original Papers and case studies are invited from academics and scholars, researchers and students of multi-disciplinary.

Only one co-author is permitted. All papers shall be scrutinized through a blind review by the Editorial Board. All Papers shall be subjected to the anti-plagiarism software ‘TURNITIN’. Selected Papers will be published by the College.

Mode of Seminar

All the stages of the Seminar will be conducted in online mode.

How to Submit?

  • Well-researched papers are invited from all sections of the society for presentation at the Seminar.
  • Papers shall be accepted only after review.
  • The organizers reserve the right to accept or reject Papers based on suitability (thematic and otherwise) for the Seminar.
  • An abstract of a maximum of 500 words must be submitted within 11:59 PM on or before 15 February 2022 through the Google Form provided below.
  • The paper shall be 3000 to 4000 words long excluding footnotes and must be submitted on or before 25 March 2022.
  • The Papers may conform to Blue Book Citation Style (20 th Edition); Font: Times New Roman; Font Size: 16 for Main Heading, 14 for Sub-Headings, 12 for Body & 10 for Footnotes; Spacing: 1.5 for Body and 1 for Footnotes; Headings and Sub-Headings must be in bold.
  • The name of the author(s) may be indicated only on the first page of the manuscript.

The Paper should contain a declaration specifying that:

  • The research work has not been submitted elsewhere for award of any degree or for purpose of publication.
  • The material borrowed from other sources has been duly acknowledged.
  • The candidate would be held responsible for any plagiarism detected in the submission.
  • Signature of the candidate on this declaration is mandatory.

Fee Details

  • Once the Abstract is selected, participants will be sent a registration link via email.
  • Students or Scholars: ₹500 for the single author; ₹750 for co-author.

About the Journal

The Journal is the flagship student-run journal of National Law University, Delhi. It is an annual peer-reviewed journal that seeks to provide a forum for students, academicians, and professionals to engage in discussions on varied issues of contemporary importance in domestic and international law and policy. 

Submission Categories

  • Articles (5000 to 10000 words, inclusive of footnotes): Papers that comprehensively analyse a theme and engage with all the existing literature on it.
  • Essays (3000 to 5000 words, inclusive of footnotes): Papers that concisely analyse specific contemporary issues.
  • Case notes and/or Legislative commentaries (2000 to 7000 words, inclusive of footnotes).
  • Book reviews: Between 2,000 to 3,000 words.

Submission Guidelines

  • The deadline for the submission of manuscripts is 11:59 PM (IST) on 21 March 2022. Manuscripts will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Manuscripts submitted after the deadline shall be reviewed for the next volume. Submissions are accepted only in electronic form.
  • The submission must be made in a Microsoft Word (.docx) format via e-mail to nludslj@nludelhi.ac.in with the email title as ‘Submission – JLS’.
  • Manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and, if found, manuscripts will be rejected at any stage of processing. In case an article is already published when plagiarism is detected, it will be retracted, and authors’ institutions may be notified.
  • By submitting contributions to NLUD JLS, the author(s) confirms that the manuscript is not being simultaneously considered for publication elsewhere (online or print).
  • Co-authorship is permitted up to a maximum of two authors. 
  • Upon submission, the manuscript shall be the property of National Law University, Delhi. All rights are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. On subsequent reproduction, the authors would be required to credit the original publication in the Journal of Legal Studies. The University reserves the right to reproduce, publish and distribute any paper submitted for publication in all media, including but not limited to electronic and print media.

Style Guide

  • Submissions must conform to the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA), 4th Edition.
  • After review, manuscripts may be returned to authors suggesting changes to content, style or structure. Acceptance of the piece for publication may be made contingent upon incorporating the suggestions.
