About the Moot

Amity Law School, Amity University, Noida is Organizing 4th Amity National Hindi Moot Court Competition 2020 to be held from March 20th-21st, 2020.

This event is formed with the objective to promote & pioneer the Hindi language, which aims to envisage and hold the traditions and philosophy of law through basic grass-root level in a practical manner.

Eligibility

  • A student pursuing 3 years or 5 years of LL.B. Degree from any recognized Law School/College/University in India/Abroad are eligible to participate.
  • Any recognized Law School/College/University in India/Abroad shall be entitled to send only one team to the competition.
  • Each team shall consist of a minimum of two and maximum of three members. A team comprises of two speakers and one researcher.
  • Only 40 teams shall be entitled to participate in the competition, subject to the first come first serve basis. A maximum of two teams would be allowed from an institution.

About the Institute and Seminar

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab is organising a One-Day National Seminar on “The Changing Paradigm of Right to Information Law” to be held on 1st April 2020 at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, Punjab. The Centre for Advanced Studies in Labour Welfare (CASLW), RGNUL is organizing the one-day Seminar in collaboration with Punjab State Information Commission.

The Centre has been established in association with International Justice Mission (IJM), an International Non-Governmental Organization based in Washington D.C., USA with the aim of working to improve the Labour Justice System in India. It works for spreading awareness among labourers about their rights thereby ensuring them a life of human dignity.

Call for Papers

Seminar papers are invited from the academicians, practitioners, researchers, scholars and students on the issues related to the above themes. It is also proposed that the selected papers by the Committee will be published in a special volume of the seminar in the form of an edited book with an ISBN No.

Authors of selected abstracts would be required to present their paper during sessions on the day of the seminar. Best presenters will be felicitated by the best presenter award.

Theme

The Right to Information Act, 2005 aims to ensure an appropriate response to requests for information made by citizens with respect to listed public authorities. After 15 years, several contemporary developments have led to remarkable changes in the functioning and scope of the Right to Information. The act has been hailed by activists and general citizenry as one of the most indispensable legislations required for access to information regarding the functioning of public authorities.

However, the act has been plagued by one demand since its inception in 2005; Increasing the scope of the act. 2019 has been an important year marking such developments, such as the promulgation of RTI Amendment Bill 2019, the landmark Supreme Court constitutional bench judgment, which laid down that the office of Chief Justice of India is included within the ambit of the RTI etc. The seminar aims to expound upon the contemporary developments in the decade with an emphasis on judicial precedents and contemporary judgments on the same.

The Bluebook (19th Ed.) for citations must be strictly adhered to while submitting the full seminar paper.

Call for Papers

The conference invites research papers from academicians, industry experts, students of law or those related to the field. The papers must be accompanied by an abstract (upto 300 words) and must apply research skills such as specific research methodology, research questions, hypothesis and objectives of the research.

The abstracts would be peer-reviewed by the organizing committee and only shortlisted abstracts would be invited to submit final papers. The final paper should be submitted after the intimation of acceptance of abstract.

About the e-Newsletter

The Editorial team of the NUALS IBC e-Newsletter is pleased to invite original and unpublished manuscripts for the 8th Vol. of the e-Newsletter from academicians, professionals and law students. In order to carry forward the objectives of the Centre, an e-Newsletter focusing on the law relating to Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 was introduced in 2018.

Seven volumes of the e-Newsletter have been published till date. The main objective behind the e-Newsletter is to disseminate knowledge relating to the current affairs in the field of IBC.

The e-Newsletter includes, without limitation, the analysis of the recent landmark judgments, legislative amendments, circulars, rules, regulations, relating to IBC. About the Organizers

After the historic bill introduced by the Government of India and concerns raised by various experts, Indian National Association of Legal Professionals (INALP) with its Student’s Division, associated experts and parliamentarians plans to constructively discuss and deliberate on the bill. INALP then will formulate a collective recommendation with various organizations, experts and other stake holders aiming at the best data protection bill being formulated by our government.

Call for Recommendations

Law Students across the country are invited to send recommendations on Personal Data Protection Bill with direct references to sections & clauses. Students are requested to evolve or rediscover jurisprudence on privacy laws too. These recommendations will be collected via consultation events in major cities associating with various law schools & organizations. Final Deliberation Event with experts and students will be organized in Delhi preferably in the parliament where the recommendations will be discussed and then represented to the government.

Background of Bill 

The historic nine-judge bench delivered Judgement also called “Privacy Judgement” on 24th August 2017 which recognized ‘Right to Privacy’ a fundamental right. This judgment pressed on the needs of a law on privacy & data protection. After a draft circulated in 2018 the ‘Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019’ was introduced in Lok Sabha by the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad, on December 11, 2019.

The Bill seeks to provide for the protection of personal data of individuals and establishes a Data Protection Authority for the same which was drafted by Justice B. N. Srikrishna Committee. The Personal Data Protection Bill, 2018 was taken down last year after the concerns raised by stakeholders like Google, Facebook, CISCO, Master Card, Amazon, Twitter, etc.

Now on 23rd January, Gov. Of India has set up a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) headed by Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi for the examination and report of the Bill. This JPC is taking suggestions and recommendations from the stakeholders. INALP will call for a final deliberation in Delhi and collate all recommendations to be sent.
