About the Organiser

The Society of International Law and Policy (‘SILP’) of the National University of Juridical Sciences is an academic society that seeks to create awareness about contemporary international issues of legal importance. It seeks to develop a synergy between law and policy at the international level while recognizing that geopolitical trends in the transnational space have impacts at the municipal level.

About the Essay Competition

The 1st NUJS SILP Essay Competition: Participants in this pan-India essay competition stand a chance to win cash prizes, publication opportunities, and merit certificates from NUJS.

This essay competition seeks to further discourse on relevant topics in contemporary international law.

Eligibility

Open to undergraduate students in any course and post-graduate (LL.B/LL.M) Law students from any recognized University/College/Law School in India. 

Co-authorship up to two authors is permitted.

  • Ecocide as International Crime: Bold Reform or Empty Rhetoric?
  • Communitarian Interest in International Law 
  • Succession of States in respect of State Responsibility
  • Fragmentation of International Law: Challenges and Prospects
  • Critical International Law: Recent Trends

Formatting Guidelines

  • Font: Time News Roman `
  • Font Size: 12
  • Spacing: 1.5
  • Margin: One inch on all sides
  • Paper size: A4
  • Wrod Limit:
    • Minimum Word Limit: 2000
    • Maximum word Limit: 2500 (excluding footnotes, kindly avoid using speaking footnotes)
  • Citation style: OSCOLA 4th Edition.
  • Citation Font Size: 10 
  • Spacing: 1.0
  • Citation Font: Times New Roman 
  • Do not include any pictures or other illustrations in the essay
  • All essays have to be in English

Submission Guidelines

  • All submissions will undergo strict online plagiarism check.
  • Special consideration will be placed upon originality, applicability and feasibility of the arguments/ suggestions made in the essay and the depth of research.
  • The copyright in the legislative draft submitted by the participating teams shall vest with the Society of International Law and Policy. Further, The Society of International Law and Policy shall not be responsible for any liability accrued to any person or for any loss caused to any person because of the content of the essay submitted.
  • In case of any dispute, the decision of the Directors of the Society of International Law and Policy and National University of Juridical Sciences will be final.
  • Submission of the essays will take place via a google form –
  • It is the responsibility of each Team to ensure that the “.docx” copy of the submission can be opened legibly with Microsoft Office 2010 or Microsoft Office 2007 and the “.pdf” copy of the submission can be opened legibly with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • The form will also collect details of the participants’ names, phone numbers, email addresses and name of their College/ University, and course undertaken along with their year of study. 

Important Dates

  • Date of topic release: December 15, 2021
  • Submission of Essays: January 31, 2022 
  • Result Declaration: March 1, 2022

Awards

  • 1st place: Rs 5,000 and merit certificate 
  • 2nd place: Rs 3,000 and a merit certificate 
  • 3rd place: Rs 2,000 and a merit certificate 
  • The top ten entries will be published on the SILP Blog or be released as a special edited volume.
