About the Event

The Debating Society of Amity Law School, Amity University Madhya Pradesh is delighted to officially invite you to the 1st edition of the “AUMP Parliamentary Debate 2020”, which is scheduled for 18th & 19th March 2020.

The AUMP Parliamentary Debate 2020 is a two-day inter-varsity event and is being organized in Amity Law School, Amity University Madhya Pradesh for the very first time which indeed is an opportunity for students from different vistas who seek interest in the powers of words. Provisional registration for the tournament is now open.

Format

Asian Parliamentary Debate: 3 on 3 formats, with then (number of participants) +1 rule, allotted on first come first serve basis.

About the Organizer and Seminar

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies, formerly National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies, is a uni-disciplinary university in Kochi, India for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate legal education. It is the only National Law University in the state of Kerala.

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi is organizing a three-day National Seminar on Citizenship and the Indian Constitution on March 5th, 6th and 7th, 2020.

Since the passing of The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the entire country engaged in continuous debate and discussion over the various provisions of the same. CAA and NRC are the most discussed terms for the past few months. The proposal of nationwide National Register of Citizens updating exercise has been a cause of panic among people as the exercise may make them lose their citizenship if they are unable to provide the proof of citizenship.

The seminar consists of a paper presentation on various themes given below, touching upon the Constitution and Citizenship, and an international colloquium on the subject by dignitaries in the field of law, politics, journalism, activism and academia. The seminar intends to provide an enhanced understanding on issues relating to citizenship, seen due to the changes made in the legal framework in India.

A call for research papers has also been made wherein the abstract is required to not exceed 250 words and various other details that will be further notified of.

The Faculty of Law, PES University, is pleased to announce that the third edition of the University’s flagship Moot Court Competition, will be held between the 19th and 22nd of March, 2020. The moot proposition is themed around electoral and constitutional law.

Eligibility

All law colleges/institutions/universities across the country recognised by the Bar Council of India are eligible to take part in the Competition. All participants must be currently pursuing their Bachelor’s degree in law, i.e., either 3-year or 5-year courses. However, only one team is allowed to participate in the Competition from one law college/institution.

Team Composition

Each team can comprise of either two or three members. In the case of two members, both the members shall be designated as Speakers. In the case of three members, two members shall be designated as Speakers and one member shall be designated as Researcher.

The Competition will be held at PES University, Bangalore.

About the Moot

The 37th BCIT All-India Inter-University Moot Court Competition: 2020 for Law students sponsored by the Bar Council of India will be held at School of Law, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology KIIT (Deemed to be University) from 10th to 12th April 2020 to be organized by the Bar Council of India Trust.

Eligibility

The Moot Court Competition is open to all students enrolled in a LLB degree provided by a recognized University in India. A university will be represented by only one Team and the team shall comprise of 3 members.

Law colleges outside the Universities must get in touch with the universities to which they are affiliated to and get their nominations sent through Deans/Registrars of the concerned University. The nominations received from the law colleges directly (instead of the University) will not be entertained.

Registration

Teams should register in the following way: the participants have to fill their details required in the registration form and the same is to be sent to bcimoot2019[at]kls.ac.in by 25th of February 2020 from the official mail id of the institution.

Eligibility

The competition is open for students who are studying three year or five-year law course during the current academic year.

Team Composition

  1. Each team should consist of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 members. This number cannot be modified under any circumstances.
  2. There shall be 2 speakers and 1 researcher designated for each team. The researcher shall be allowed to argue with prior permission of the court and National Administrator in case of illness of the designated speakers.
  3. Each team will be provided a team code during orientation. Teams should not disclose the identity of their institution; such disclosure shall invite penalties including disqualification. The decision for the same shall be at the discretion of the National Administrator.

Online registrations are open from 1 Feb. 2020. The teams must register online by 28 Feb 2020. Teams will have to register online HERE.

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab is organising a One-Day National Seminar on “The Changing Paradigm of Right to Information Law” to be held on 1st April 2020 at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, Punjab. The Centre has been established in association with International Justice Mission (IJM), an International Non-Governmental Organization based in Washington D.C., USA with the aim of working to improve the Labour Justice System in India. It works for spreading awareness among labourers about their rights thereby ensuring them a life of human dignity.

Call for Papers

Seminar papers are invited from the academicians, practitioners, researchers, scholars and students on the issues related to the above themes. It is also proposed that the selected papers by the Committee will be published in a special volume of the seminar in the form of an edited book with an ISBN No.

Theme

The Right to Information Act, 2005 aims to ensure an appropriate response to requests for information made by citizens with respect to listed public authorities. After 15 years, several contemporary developments have led to remarkable changes in the functioning and scope of the Right to Information. The act has been hailed by activists and general citizenry as one of the most indispensable legislations required for access to information regarding the functioning of public authorities.

However, the act has been plagued by one demand since its inception in 2005; Increasing the scope of the act. 2019 has been an important year marking such developments, such as the promulgation of RTI Amendment Bill 2019, the landmark Supreme Court constitutional bench judgment, which laid down that the office of Chief Justice of India is included within the ambit of the RTI etc. The seminar aims to expound upon the contemporary developments in the decade with an emphasis on judicial precedents and contemporary judgments on the same.

In order to carry forward the objectives of the Centre, an e-Newsletter focusing on the law relating to Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 was introduced in 2018.

Seven volumes of the e-Newsletter have been published till date. The main objective behind the e-Newsletter is to disseminate knowledge relating to the current affairs in the field of IBC.

The e-Newsletter includes, without limitation, the analysis of the recent landmark judgments, legislative amendments, circulars, rules, regulations, relating to IBC. The e-Newsletter also perceives to include interviews from reputed legal professionals practicing in the field of IBC, and articles from students and academicians.

Topic

The contributions must deal with a contemporary issue of insolvency and bankruptcy law and must provide the author’s novel take on the issue.

Submission Procedure and Guidelines

§  The word limit for the contribution is 1000 to 1500. (excluding footnotes)

§  Submissions shall be in (.docx) format.

§  Main text: Garamond, font size 12, line spacing 1.5.

§  Footnotes: Garamond, font size 10, line spacing 1.0. (footnotes should be avoided and kept to a bare minimum)

§  Style of citation: Bluebook 20th Edition.

§  Co-authorship is allowed to a maximum of 2 authors.

§  The selected contributions will be published and all such contributions will be acknowledged in the e-Newsletter.

§  Plagiarism will lead to disqualification of the contribution.

§  Deadline for sending submissions for the 8th Volume is 11:59 PM on February 22, 2020.

§  Submissions must be made in the electronic form to nualsibcnewsletter[at]gmail.com under the subject heading “Submission: IBC e-Newsletter Vol. VIII”.

§  The body of the mail shall contain details of the author (full name, semester, university and contact number).
